Reid ran a hand through his hair, an gave his class a somewhat nervous smile.

"Well, today's the last day of the summer term," he said. "I... Don't have anything special for you, I'm afraid. Just... play what you like," he added, nodding towards the piles of board games.

"If you have any questions, or want to play a game with me, I'll be here."

Play with each other; there are plenty of options.

Emma grabbed one of the chess boards, enjoying the feel of the pieces under her fingers as she started setting up.

She'd play against herself, if no one else was interested, but she wouldn't object to a partner.

Chess with another psychic could be a very bad idea, but Ben couldn't help himself.

"Want to play?" he asked.

Oh look! It was Karla's Ben, and Emma beamed at him brightly.

Emma loved Bad Ideas. She loved the sounds they made when she grabbed on to them, and ate them like candy.

"Of course, darling," she said, reaching to scoop up the two queens and hide them behind her back. "Pick a hand, any hand."

"The left," he said with a tiny smile, making sure his mental barriers were as high as he could make them.

Emma smiled and unfurled her fingers, offering him the white queen. "Your move, then."

Ben looked pleased, but then schooled his face to absolute neutrality as he moved his first pawn out.

"At home, this game is played with moving pieces," he said.

"How does that work?" Emma asked, nudging out a pawn of her own. "Do they respond to verbal commands or something?"

"Computer program," Ben explained, shifting another piece out. "They're programmed to know what move I'm making."

"Seriously? We're just getting cell phones in my time, interactive chess on that level is probably still a few years out," she laughed, drawing out a rook. "I find the technological differences between different places fascinating. You have to wonder where the different paths of invention diverged, and why."

"We're really into games?" he laughed, shifting a piece into the way of her rook. "The Jedi came up with a more complicated version of chess millennia ago."

"So you're easily bored, then? Or is it easily amused?" she asked sweetly, another pawn moving into play.

"We spend a lot of time between planets?" Ben offered, moving a pawn to take one of her pawns out.

Which was what her bishop had been waiting for. Hello, little pawn. Emma thinks you look tasty.

"Between planets," she echoed, shaking her head. "Now I'm picturing you all as little space cowboys, always riding off into the sunset."

The loss of the pawn freed up his queen to come out. Mwahaha.

"We take off to make sure we are framed as dramatically as possible," he deadpanned.

"Ah, so you're really reality television models, with your dramatic posing," she replied agreeably, bringing out another pawn off to the side. "No wonder you need the mental exercise that the games provide."

Ben set his rook out to help clear the way for his queen. "Or else we'll just turn into gibbering morons and no one wants to see that," he said with a quick smile.

Claire looked over the games, considering her options.
