Driver's Ed [Thursday, Week 6, Period 5]

The Danger Shop was set up at the racetrack again today, and was back to nice, sunny weather. In fact, at first, the most noticeable difference in the class setting would probably be the assembly of cars.

"Many people claim that the difference between good drivers and bad drivers is that good drivers do not get into dangerous driving situations, and bad drivers do," Ziva said. "I do not believe that this is the case. Even the best drivers can suddenly find themselves in a bad situation, because of other people driving poorly, or because of circumstances that are out of their control. The real difference between good drivers and bad drivers is that good drivers know how to react when they are about to have an accident, and can either minimize the potential damage, or prevent the accident from occurring altogether."

For the record, she was very good at that first option. The second one, not so much. "It is difficult to react properly to a dangerous situation the first time you are having the experience. I could stand here and tell you how to turn the steering wheel if you lose control of your car until I am blue in the head, but the first time it happens to you, you will not remember a word that I have said. In order to help you become good drivers, you are all going to take part in some dangerous driving experiences for what I hope is the first time today, so that if they happen to you while you are driving on actual roads, you can be able to avoid panicking, and make the right choices to stay safe."

Well, the cars were nice. Too bad Alex almost missed the bumper cars. They were a good way to get some frustration out.

If only she could actually afford anything like this in real life. Effy was really only half-listening to the lecture as she looked them over.

See, now those were some cars. Griff would probably do anything Ziva asked to get to drive them, yes.

"Shiiiiiiny," Claudia said, eyes wide as she looked at the convertibles.

Oh, these cars made Alice's knees weak. There was something sinful and delicious to them. And they purred. What delightful things they were.

Go fast and then hit the brakes. While Alex would have preferred to just go fast, he knew he really couldn't. So, he hoped in one of the cars, jammed the accelerator down and watch the speedometer rise, rise, rise until it hit seventy.

As soon as it did, he slammed the brake and went skidding, hands tightening on the wheel and tires squealing. He was at a stop quickly and seriously thinking his decision to just go fast. That'd been fun.

Even though Tara knew it was coming, she wasn't ready for it the first time she slammed on the brakes and jolted forward into the dashboard, and she made a small squeaking noise.

The second time through, she braced herself much better.

There was nothing like getting to 70 as fast as he could and then slamming on the brake and feeling the car come to a complete stop almost as fast.

Griff kinda wanted to do it again, actually.

"Eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee," Claudia squealed as she hit the brakes. "Omigod omigod omigod omigod omigod."

So coherent, our Claudia.

The problem with getting Francine to learn about how to come to a safe stop at high speeds was... getting Francine to drive at high speeds in the first place.

But hey, the ABS worked really nicely at 56 MPH!

Jack had some problems with the ABS; namely, he didn't think some new-fangled brake thing would help him stop better...until he tried it.

Alice might have let the numbers drift a touch higher than she ought -- she was flying, she had such little regard for technicalities.

When she held down the brake, she felt as though all of her insides were slamming up against each other, and against the steering wheel, and would have been against the windshield, as well, if not for that belt they had asked her to fasten.

She was going to hope that belt didn't leave bruises.

"Arthur won't be here today, Ms. David," Francine mentioned as she studied the row of shiny, shiny cars. "Which he'll probably be sad about, because shiiiiny." Even if she was going to drive them at 5 miles under the speed limit, they were still shiny.
