"Good morning, class," Jim said once everyone was in their seats. "Today we'll be discussing no-win scenarios."

Shut up, Bones.

"I want you all to split off into pairs and come up with a situation where there is no way to win other than to not go into it at all. That shouldn't be too difficult, right? When you've gotten that done, I want you to write it down and bring it to class with you next week for the final exam."

He grinned.

"And yes, there is a final exam. Good luck," He said, plopping down in a swivel chair.

He missed his so damn much.

"She was throwing it at us as we went under barbed wire. To see if our costumes would stand up to 'extreme' circumstances or something." Yuffie was really getting into rant mode, but then realized she had no idea who this girl was.

"I'm Yuffie."

"Sookie," she said with a bright smile, sensing another topic of conversation might be welcome. "Um. So, I'm not the biggest fan of these no-win scenarios."

"Neither am I. I'm used to just, blowing things up until I win." It had always worked before.

"I usually kinda consider winning to be...living? I guess," Sookie admitted. "So if I can just go on with my life, I'm fine. And so far that's worked out for me, even if most things don't come out in my favor, in the small scheme."

"So, no-win." This was pretty damn hard to decide. "Magic cave? Strips you of weapons and abilities, full of crazy monsters?"

"...that sounds horrible and no-winny," Sookie decided, frowning deeply. "And maybe you can't find the exit, even on top of the monsters an' all."

"Well, if I knew about the no weapons or abilities thing, I wouldn't go in there at all. Because there's always something that can only be destroyed by magic."

And she really hated those things.

Sookie, on the other hand, didn't know these things. "That sounds awful tricky for those of us who don't use magic in the first place."

"Yeah." It sucked when you ran out and the damn thing just wouldn't die. "And of course, what is in the cave is very important, but not enough that you can't do without it."

"If you can do without it, then why would you even consider goin' in?" Sookie wondered.

Yuffie shrugged. "It's one of those 'hero' things," she explained, with actual finger quotes. "It's always something you need to finish the quest easily, and while you don't really need it, having it means that fewer people die and it won't take as long."

"Fewer people dying as a result seems like it's pretty necessary," Sookie decided.

"Yep, but you're taking a chance on you dying, which means the world doesn't get saved."

"...this is definitely a no-win scenario," Sookie replied, frowning. "You die, or other people die."
