Tactics, 8/13

"Good morning, class," Jim said once everyone was in their seats. "Today we'll be discussing no-win scenarios."

Shut up, Bones.

"I want you all to split off into pairs and come up with a situation where there is no way to win other than to not go into it at all. That shouldn't be too difficult, right? When you've gotten that done, I want you to write it down and bring it to class with you next week for the final exam."

He grinned.

"And yes, there is a final exam. Good luck," He said, plopping down in a swivel chair.

He missed his so damn much.

"Sure," Tahiri said. She was way more amenable to this exercise than the one from Rimmer's class (what the kriffing hell). "So, what sort of no-win situation do you think he wants us to go for here?"

"The man doesn't believe in no-win scenarios so I have no idea where he's going with this," Bones grumbled. "I'm guessing one of those ones where you're taken hostage with no weapons and no way of escape."

And even then Jim would find a way out of it. Lucky jerk.

"Oh, those," Tahiri said, grimacing. "I love those. Really. And let me guess, hoping someone comes to rescue you isn't really an option either."

"Can't be having hope of rescue," Bones said with a nod. "That's just adding possibility of 'win' to the 'no-win' scenario."

"Well, so much for drawing on experience then," Tahiri grumbled. "Okay. So. Trapped on an abandoned space station with the life support about to go offline, no EV suits. How's that for starters?"

It wasn't really drawing on experience. For one, the space station hadn't been entirely abandoned, and depressurization was different from failing life support systems . . .

"Works," Bones said with a nod. "Could possibly come up with a couple of ways where you can escape that, if you've got the right people around."

Scotty, for instance.
