How to be Awesome | Week 6 | Period 6 | Mon. 8/10

Back in the computer lab, How to Be Awesome students would find their witty and well-groomed professor waiting in an armchair at the front of the room with a glass of scotch and a cigar. Don't ask how he managed it, just be impressed with his abilities. There was also a screen hanging behind him and plenty of computer stations facing him for all to use.

A minute or two before the appropriate time, Barney started in on his 'lecture.'

"Alright students and potential street cleaners, this week you're going to prepare to show the world how awesome you are. Someday, some of you will need to apply for a job. But come on, who can really show off what they're able to do on paper? No one Awesome. Who cares what school you went to or if you were in the Honor Society? Not anyone important. Which is why you need a video résumé. That's right. People are nothing if not visual and this," he pointed at the screen, "is the best way to introduce Barney Stinson to the world. In fact, I sent a copy of my résumé along with an introductory letter to the school board just the other day to ensure they were using me to the very best of my abilities." Oh yes, Barney had ideas.

"Now, you're going to take a gander at mine and then today I'm giving you cameras and access to film editing software right in this very computer lab to crank out an Awesome résumé highlighting the best parts of you that show why anyone should ever hire your Awesome self. Your projects are due next Monday and are your pass to participating in the final." He clicked a button on the remote and the lights dimmed for the show.

Yakko was spinning around in his computer chair. It was hard to stare while doing that.

Prince Edward stared, yes. But he thought he pretty much understood, which rarely happens in this class.

Chuck had a hangover so he was avoiding looking at the screen too much (the light hurt!) but he was impressed with what he saw. He was also very glad he was inheriting a job and would probably never need a resume.

There was nothing wrong with staring when Barney managed to surprise Sam with his insanity every single week.

Jack stared at the video. "You can do that now?"

Oh, modern technology is awesome.

That was certainly different, Alex thought. And a little scary if only for the fact that it looked like Professor Stinson spent a damn long time on that.

Alex shook his head and laughed, bypassing any notes just to watch with amusement.

...yeah, Fiona was staring. Stare, Fiona, stare.

This was...new, if mildly entertaining.

"Ooooh," said Claudia admiringly. She thought the whole thing needed a little more color, though.

Would this actually impress anyone? Not that Leto was aware of the styles of manipulating the masses of this time, but he had serious doubts.

Effy was probably the only one there actually not staring at the crazy man up the front with his video resume.

That was because, as a cat, she didn't much care, and hey, like he was really going to complain much. The very fact she pulled herself out of kitty world enough to actually make it to class (even if she was stretched out on a desk) was a miracle in itself.

"But he never actually does anything," Priestly wondered aloud. Then his eyes widened. "Ohhhhhhhhhhh."

The whole world started to make just a little bit more sense.

"He doesn't have to," Elena laughed. "He's awesome."

This video needed to go viral. So, so badly.

Priestly nodded. "I'm starting to get it. If he were to actually try to do any of those things, they'd see that he's not actually that awesome at all."

Re: Lecture [Awesome W6]

"You think he's masking his deep insecurities by over-compensating?" she grinned. "He might just be making a point about style over substance. You don't need to actually do all those things if you can make people think you did."

"Or maybe he's going for a sophisticated form of satire."

Priestly was pretty sure that Barney was overcompensating, though.

"So we should be similarly over-the-top," she mused. "Whether he's sincere or not. I'll have to invent some special awards given to me personally by the President."

She could mock up Rufus's signature, no sweat.

Bobby wasn't staring so much as fidgeting, trying not to pick bits of dried pudding out of his hair.

Re: Lecture [Awesome W6]

[identity profile] chic-harper.livejournal.com 2009-08-10 05:38 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, that got Harper's attention away from Barney's resume. "What is that in your hair?" she asked.

Re: Lecture [Awesome W6]

[personal profile] longislandiceme 2009-08-10 07:17 pm (UTC)(link)
"Butterscotch pudding," Bobby replied, trying to make it sound as if that were nothing out of the ordinary.

[identity profile] chic-harper.livejournal.com 2009-08-10 07:20 pm (UTC)(link)
"But why do you have butterscotch pudding in your hair? Is it like some sort of funky hat?" asked Harper.

Elena could not stop laughing. Dammit, if this song got stuck in her head, she was going to pummel somebody.
