Gun Club meeting - Gun Range, 4pm

Parker walks onto the range, her .Sig and Glock in their locked case, and makes sure everything is ready. She posts the following two notices, to be read by everyone who wants to participate:

Ten Commandments of Firearms Safety

1. Treat every gun with the respect due a loaded gun.
2. Watch that muzzle! Be able to control the direction of the muzzle even if you should stumble.
3. Be sure barrel and action are clear of obstructions and that you have only ammunition of the proper size for the gun you are carrying.
4. Be sure of your target before you pull the trigger; know identifying features of the game you hunt. Never shoot at a sound or move­ment.
5. Unload guns when not in use. Take down or have act­ions open; guns should be carried in cases to the shoot­ing area.
6. Never point a gun at anything you do not want to shoot; avoid all horse­play with a firearm.
7. Never climb a fence or tree or jump a ditch with a loaded gun; never pull a gun toward you by the muzzle.
8. Never shoot a bullet at a flat, hard sur­face or water; at tar­get practices be sure your backstop is adequate.
9. Store guns and ammunition sep­ar­ately beyond the reach of children and careless adults.
10. Avoid alcoholic bev­er­ages before or during shooting.

She puts on her hearing protection, puts up a Dracula target, and starts shooting.

Parker will be back in 3-4 hours to interact with anyone who wants to show up. Don't bother NPC'ing her. Have fun!

"Need any help?" Parker is leaning against the edge of the enclosure. "It's fairly simple, if you understand the principles. You obviously have weapons control familiarity already."

"Is there a way to reduce the kickback on this thing?" Aeryn asks. It's making her shoulder hurt.

Parker analyzes what she's doing, and then steps forward. "You're holding it right, but you're putting the pressure on the trigger wrong. You have to curl your finger around it, squeeze it, not pull it. Otherwise it just vibrates up your arm." She demonstrates on her gun. "See?"

Aeryn does the same, and fires off one shot into the target. Dead center in the chest.

"That's better."

"Very good." Parker studies the target, and nods. "I don't know if you're familiar enough with the weapons now to compete in the pin-shooting, but with a little practice, I think you'd do damn well."

"These do take some getting used to," Aeryn says. "I know I definitely prefer mine."

"Yes, well, I'd like a disintegration pistol or whatever too," Parker says dryly. "But I have a feeling they're a bitch to get a permit for in Blue Cove."

"No disintegration," Aeryn corrects. "Though I can think of some times that would have come in handy."

"Shame. Still. Laser-pulse? Did I get that right? A laser-pulse pistol would be the kind of thing-- well. There are governments that would get too interested, actually. Forget I mentioned it." Parker looks covetous. "Sometime, though, I'd like to try it."

Aeryn picks up her pulse pistol and hands it over. "I trust you," she says. "Just don't blow it up. I seem to be running out of weaponry."

"Noooo problem," Parker coos. She sights down the barrel, then checks everything: cartridge, slide, trigger, safety. "Like this?" she says, holding it carefully, in front of her body.

"Right. It doesn't feel anything like firing one of these," Aeryn says, indicating the weapon in her hand, "so don't be expecting that."

"Got it." Parker braces herself, and then has to compensate-- the kickback is less than she thought, and different, more like she imagines a machine-gun would be. She fries the target. "Okay. That sucked."

"That would be why I switched to one of these," Aeryn nods. "I'm going to have to find a better target than paper."

"Mmm." Parker frowns. "What did you use before? When you were-- wherever?" she says, realizing she has no actual idea where Aeryn is from. There's so many advanced civilization types running around, she gave up keeping track about the third week in. "Is it anything we could obtain for the range?"

"We had ranges set up with special targets that could actually take the blast or so my mun has decided. I think I have about as much chance of getting one as I do getting my Prowler here. I may have to make it my mission to find something useable."

Parker frowns. "Maybe MacGyver or someone else with too much time on their hands one of the teachers around here can help with that. Although, an outdoor course might at least be helpful, or non-flammable." She cocks her head. "Prowler? Is that another gun? This one is lovely enough..."

"No, I believe that is... Juanita, actually," Aeryn says, and she can't believe she actually frelling remembers the name Crichton gave it. "A Prowler is a type of ship."

Parker gives her a deadpan look. "And why wouldn't she be. Got it." Then she looks intrigued. "A ship? They wouldn't let you bring it here?"

"As far as I know, it's still on a Peacekeeper command carrier somewhere. Why loan out a ship when I'm not going to be in a combat situation?" Aeryn says, and thinks that over. "I'm sure that's what they thought, anyway."

"Ah, it belonged to your former command. I thought for a moment it was your own, like Valentine's ship. Understood." Parker grins. "I'm not in the To the Black Club, but I can understand its appeal. A shame you weren't allowed to bring yours with you."
