Between Chuck acting like nothing had changed between them and Peter insisting that what happened in the other Fandom had nothing to do with his destiny here, Sam was pretty sure that he should have been feeling a lot better about everything that had gone on over the weekend. But no amount of comfort could fully shake the images from his dreams out of his head, or the thoughts of what the other Sam had done, and how he'd destroyed his Dean in the process, or the thoughts of what he'd done when he was supposed to be the better, less evil version of himself. After dealing with Gordon and this glimpse of himself, Sam was seriously starting to consider the possibility that he might not be able to make as strong of a stand against his supposed destiny as he thought, and he wasn't sure if any amount of comfort and assurance from others would fix that now.

Luckily, if there was one thing Winchesters were good at, it was repression, and Sam thought he was doing a pretty good job of looking calm and collected as he stopped at the Perk, and then went to open the library.

"It...yeah, it was," Sam admitted. "I think I'd be happy to not sleep for a while too."

Claire nodded. "If there's anything I can do... I mean, if there's stuff you need to talk about or whatever..."

She trailed off with a shrug. They weren't super close, but Sam was practically family.

Sam gave into his first reaction and shook his head. "No, I don't--I mean, there's nothing I need to talk about, really. Peter makes me unload on him whether I want to or not, but I don't want to bug you like that."

"It's not bugging me if I offer," she pointed out lightly. "But it's cool if you don't too."

"I'm just glad you didn't end up there too," Sam said. "It was a lot safer here."

Claire nodded. "Rose said that other-me had dark hair and grew tomatoes."

Yes, she was still a little weirded out about the gardening thing.

"There wasn't a lot of food. I think people were growing what they could," Sam said, breaking into a soft smile. "The dark hair was pretty surprising, but you made it work."

"Peter says I'm not allowed to dye it," Claire told him. "I said that I wasn't aware my hair was a democracy."

"It's your hair," Sam said, snickering. "You could dye it a different, less dramatic color."

Claire chuckled. "I'm not planning to. But you know how Peter is."

That got a more genuine smile out of Sam. "Yeah, I know how Peter is."

"I'm glad he has you," she said. "He deserves to be happy."

"I'm glad I make him happy here," Sam said, thinking about the other Peter. "No one was happy in the other place."

Claire nodded. "I gathered that much. And I also like knowing that you're going to help keep him safe."

"I will," Sam said firmly, because seeing a not-safe Peter had that kind of effect. "No matter what."

"So, I guess I should go to work," Claire said. "Maybe you and me and Peter and Jon can have dinner sometime soon."

Hey, look at that, another smile. "Like a double date? That sounds like fun."

Claire grinned. "Yeah, I think it would be fun. Plus, you can keep Peter from being too mean to Jon."

Sam laughed. "I promise, I'll keep him distracted so he'll be nice."

"I would definitely appreciate it," Claire said. "Okay, I'll see you later?"

"Yeah. Thank you for the muffins," Sam said. "And for, you know, being so nice and everything."

"You're welcome," Claire said. "I would say niceness runs in the family, but it's pretty much restricted to me and Peter."
