Mythbusting, Tuesday, 8/4

Class met in the Danger Shop today, and Tyler was notably subdued. He didn't feel right but was trying to hold it together enough to teach.

"Car myths," he said, once the class was gathered near a parking lot of simulated vehicles. "Sugar or bleach in the gas tank will kill the engine, a potato in the tail pipe will blow up the car, mothballs in the fuel tank make a car run better, a penny in the carburetor ruins the engine, an egg will fix a crack in the radiator. You've probably heard stuff like that -- the ones of you from worlds with cars, anyhow."

"Today, we're checking them out. 'Additives' " -- finger quotes on that word -- "are over on the table, and every pair of you gets a fake car to screw around with. If you're going to try to blow it up, ~~handwavily~~ let me know so I can get up the shields. If you don't know how to drive, pair up with someone who does. I'm passing out a diagram of a car's engine that should get you started."

"Questions?"

Claire knew how to drive, yes. And she was looking forward to this.

Turtle was proudly endowed with a driver's license and eagerly looking forward to some ~~potentially SP'd~~ auto destruction.

Alex was excited about testing things out on the cars. Plus, she knew how to handle a car, she just didn't have her license yet. Not until next year, anyway.

Chuck...didn't know how to drive.

Shut up.

"Am I going to have to play with all the additives today?" Sam asked, since he was getting used to that. The urge to hug Chuck again was there, but Sam resisted since they were in public.

"Considering I don't know a thing about cars I'd say that's probably the safest bet," Chuck said. What the hell was a carburetor?

"You don't do a lot of driving around the city, do you?" Sam asked.

"I, uh, I kind of don't know how to," Chuck said, suddenly focusing his attention on the additives.

"You speak like a million languages, but you can't drive a car?" Sam asked. "I mean, you've never had to learn?"

"I live in New York City and have my own limo, I didn't see much of a point in learning," Chuck said.

"What if you're at the scene of a crime, and you need to get away fast and don't have your limo driver with you?" Sam teased.

"I'm sure if it's an emergency I can wing it," Chuck said. "It can't possibly be that hard."

He'd just have to get over the minor panic attack that would ensue after he got behind the wheel first. Then he'd wing it.

"It's really not," Sam assured him. "You could always try to learn too. It wouldn't kill you, probably."

Chuck groaned. "I am not sitting through those classes."

The boredom of that may very well kill him.

"I didn't mean the classes. I meant have someone teach you, one-on-one," Sam said.

Chuck eyed Sam. "And who would I do that with?"

"I'd offer, but if I'm going to be putting my life in your hands, you're paying me for the lessons," Sam said, laughing softly.

"I'd gladly pay you," Chuck said, smirking. He did not point out that money wouldn't do him any good if Chuck killed them both. "But I wasn't aware you even had a car."

"My dad has a car," Sam said. "Dean would kill me if I touched the Impala."

"I don't want to touch the Impala," Chuck said. "She was mean."

"Why, because she would only have sex with Dean and not you?" Sam asked.

As the TA for Driver's Ed, Francine was a little conflicted on doing stuff she was fairly sure was not in the manual.

Then again Mister Durden wouldn't let them do anything that might go terribly, terribly wrong! Of course not!

Robin had taken driver's ed here before so he knew how to drive. It was simply a matter of finding a car the right size.

Agnes knew enough about cars to know that she didn't know very much at all, and she took to the experiments very carefully.
