Flight and Flying [Tuesday, August 4, 4th period]

Anakin looked absolutely wiped out as he stood in the center of the flight shed. His eyes flickered to each student's face, mentally appraising their fitness to fly. "Today we're flying capital ships," he said, flicking his hands toward the screen set up in the corner. "Specifically this or the first minute and a half anyway capital ship. It was called the Invisible Hand and when I was flying it, half of it had already broken up in the atmosphere, the rudder that steered the ship had been in that half, and the thrusters weren't firing enough to stop us. The equipment was also set up for a species other than human and I couldn't read the controls."

Anakin had landed anyway. He was just that good. There wasn't a pilot in a million that could replicate what he'd done.

"Since I was working under rather...strained...circumstances, we'll do something a little easier to live through," he said. "You'll have the entire ship, and the back half will be on fire. The controls will be set up for your species and you'll be able to read the controls."

Yes, he thought that was cutting them a break. Anakin was odd. "Begin!"

Ender had actually debated showing up to class - he wasn't in the best of shapes and he was in no rush to advertise that. However, staying in his room after yesterday would have been an equal signal, if anything.

So he sat there, watching, and fussing with the bandage over his right hand periodically.

Claire was pretty impressed by the footage.

Danny stared at the screen and fought the urge to geek out a little about the ship and landing. Because seriously? That made up for Professor Skywalker being so crotchety.

Momoko watched the footage and thought that the whole thing was totally cool. It was totally like a scene from a movie!

Worf did his best but it was mostly 45% landing and 55% crashing.

Danny sort of, kinda, maybe cheated when he leveled the ship out long enough to use his cryokinesis to stop the fires. He then flew back to the cockpit and fought with the controls to try and land it successfully. It still landed hard and ended up grinding along the runway, but it wasn't as terrible as it could have been.

He transformed back before stepping out of the ship. "Did I miss the tower?" he asked, looking a little cocky.

"Please, stop, your enthusiasm is overwhelming," Danny deadpanned in response, and then slunk off to wait with his classmates.

Momoko really should have spent some more time on practice runs this time around. She'd understood that the ship was big and bulky, but she'd underestimated how much trouble it was to hold together and hold steady while descending as fast as she was. It was completely different from flying the freighters and other big ships. Faster, smoother to manipulate. And yet totally not as agile and fluid as a mecha... Momoko misjudged the timing and force necessary to fly this new ship, and only managed to not utterly be destroyed upon 'landing' by some quirk of physics that allowed her to pull the ship back up at the last possible moment. She ran pretty hard into the ground when she finally struck, though, and tore off much of the belly, as well as that half that the professor so nicely had restored to them for the exercise.

She sat for a moment before leaving her seat, mad at herself for not doing as good job as she'd expected.

Peter was there, still pondering the events of the past week.

Jess stared a little at the footage. Snarking at Anakin today didn't seem like the greatest idea for some reason.
