Practical Weaponry [Wednesday, Period Four]

Upon entering the Danger Shop, the class would have found it set up to resemble the outskirts of a Madagascan marketplace. Bond leaned against a wall on the second story of a dilapidated building overlooking a crowd intent on betting on the outcome of some sort of animal fight. In the distance they would have been able to see a construction site.

Once the class had joined him in the building Bond began. "Good afternoon, class. Today we'll be looking at parkour, which is the art of getting from one place to another as quickly, directly, and efficiently as possible, regardless of the obstacles in your path. While this may not immediately sound like a weapon, practical or otherwise, any other skill you may learn in this class will be useless if you cannot get to or away from a given fight in time."

He nodded in the direction of the crowd. "In this exercise, you will take turns playing the role of an MI-6 agent, who along with your partner in the crowd is observing a bomb-maker with the intent to capture," Bond said, indicating a man in the crowd. The burn scars on his face made it clear which of the two he was supposed to be. "However, your partner managed to raise his suspicions and he's about to flee the scene. Given that your partner is currently trying to avoid a cobra bite, it's up to you to give chase and apprehend the bomb-maker."

"Your main tools in this exercise will be your wits and your environment, but you will also be armed with one of these." Bond held up a handgun. "This is a Walther P99. Semi-automatic handgun, nine millimetre calibre, fifteen rounds in the magazine. However, given that your objective is to capture the bomb-maker alive, you are to use it only as last resort, and if you shoot anyone who is not a direct and immediate threat, you will fail the exercise."

"So, who wants to go first?"

[ooc: wait for ocd up.]

...Yes, the bulldozer.

The bulldozer got a look.

Arthur might have been wondering if it was more like a tank, or something. He still had several weeks of Driver's Ed left to go before he'd really understand what any of it was for.

Where was a good battering ram when you needed one? He set off for the bulldozer anyway, but kept his eyes open for something nice and big that he could just kind of throw at stuff.

Hannibal had no idea how to drive a bulldozer and he had no idea if the thing would even work. He started out for the chain link fence but stopped when he realized he had to chance the bulldozer to give himself some kind of advantage.

So, he backtracked and jumped in the bulldozer, starting it up and trying to get it under some kind of control.

Dinah went over the chain link fence, flipping over the top and rolling as she landed, and groaned.

And waaaait. Heh. If nothing else, it'd give her a view from the high-seat-- yes!

The bulldozer actually had its keys in it, so Dinah started it up, took a breath, and put it in gear.

Low gear. Really low. But at least she knew that much of how to get it going.

Leda didn't actually think about the bulldozer. Who from Bordertown would have the slightest idea of how to drive one anyway?

On the other hand, what B-Town street kid couldn't scale a fence like it was nothing?

Turtle would be lying if she said that she didn't think of the bulldozer. Especially since she took drivers' ed with Mr. Bond. But a bulldozer was pretty freakin' obvious, and she felt like she'd want to be more a subtle type, so she was making the scramble over the fence as quickly as she could.

Kyle didn't give the bulldozer a second look. By home rules, the chances of it actually having gas and working were slim. Luckily, he could scale the fence almost as fast as the bomber, which he promptly did without a second thought.

Ugh, climbing. Hannibal almost wanted to just take out his gun and shoot the guy in the hand or something but, with his luck, he'd fall and hit his head and die.

"Had to go climb shit, didn't you?" he bemoaned before starting for the girders. "What if I was scared of heights?!"

Whining at the bomber might do something. Maybe the bomber would stop to tell him to shut up or something. Hannibal kept climbing.

Yaaay. Wait. Dinah surveyed the area, looking for a staircase, a ladder, a-- ooooh.

A nice pulley platform?

She jumped on and hit the button so it rose along the outside of the building to the same level as her quarry, until--

After the (very destructive. poor fake people) issue of the bulldozer versus Arthur, Arthur was actually relieved to find something he could actually deal with.

Once you'd climbed up rock walls with spiders chasing you while trying to get to a bloody flower, not a lot of climbing got to be that daunting.

Really?

With a sigh, Leda followed him up. Nimbly like an elf. Again, no technological solutions occurred to her.

Thank you, years of experience with navigating an urban wasteland. Kyle scrambled up after him. He knew he had to keep up long enough for the other guy to make a mistake or for the environment to offer some kind of opportunity for Kyle to take.

Hannibal was really thankful his arms weren't in bad shape because he was huffing and puffing after the long climb and this guy was still freaking going.

Hopefully he wouldn't develop a sudden fear of heights.

Dinah stared. Then gulped. Okay then. She checked herself for loose clothing, checked her gun and the safety again, took a breath, and started climbing.

Don't. Look. Down.

She did not look down. Higher. Higher. Ohhh, crap, don't think about getting down....

[personal profile] bitchprince 2009-07-15 07:19 pm (UTC)(link)
More climbing. By now, into the realm of the terrifying.

It was still not as annoying, befuddling, or aggravating as the bulldozer.

Which meant he was going to keep doing it, even if he wasn't so sure about Bond's insistence that it would be safe.

[identity profile] anarchist-queen.livejournal.com 2009-07-15 08:59 pm (UTC)(link)
"You've got to be fucking kidding me." Leda gasped. She kept after him doggedly though.

[identity profile] weetinyreese.livejournal.com 2009-07-16 05:56 am (UTC)(link)
And up and up Kyle went. He was a little more hesitant now. Higher meant there was more of a chance of structural damage on the crane, and that was one hell of a fall. The bomb-maker gained some distance.

[identity profile] decoder-rings.livejournal.com 2009-07-15 05:33 pm (UTC)(link)
Hannibal managed to avoid the gun (seriously, he didn't need that thrown at him) and made a risky move of trying to leap at the bomb maker while he had the chance.

It was risky enough that his stupid ass missed and nearly fell off the damn crane while doing so.

"Ow!" Dinah ducked, jerked--

and her legs came off the crane, leaving her swinging by her hands as if she was on a jungle gym. She looked down.

Oh god oh god oh god oh god

She swung her legs back up onto the crane and hugged it for dear life, but not before the bombmaker got to the other building. "Damnit."
