Library [07/08]

Sam was glad to be back in the library after everything that had happened lately. Being in the library felt more normal and calming than anything else, and while he was here with a job to focus on, he was almost able to pretend that nothing was wrong. Most of the time, at least, if he tried very hard.

He'd made it to the library right on time this morning, and was keeping an eye out for any new students who might decide to come by.

Sam spent the better part of the morning checking his e-mail and cleaning up around the stacks until he had to go to Criminal Justice.

Sam had pie for Dean again - cherry this time, since that had been the freshest when he stopped by the bakery.

Sam was back at the computer, but this time, he was searching through news articles for any stories he could find about teenage boys electrocuting cats.

Peter came in and looked for Sam. "Cabins suck."

Sam glanced away from the computer and grinned at Peter. "But there's s'mores when there's cabins," he said. "They don't suck."

"Not sleeping with you every night sucks," Peter said, looking pouty.

"Sleeping by myself isn't nearly as relaxing as sleeping with you," Sam admitted. "I've got some decent people in my cabin, but I still wish you were one of them too."

"See, I knew I should've failed my classes," Peter joked. "Then I wouldn't have graduated."

"I don't know if failing would have been the right choice. I like school too much to agree to that," Sam said. "I still like the hiding you in my room option. Scout's big enough that if anyone comments on the noise, I can just say it was him."

"I could go invisible if anybody came by," Peter said. "You'd just need to make sure you didn't get a roommate."

"I can ask Zoe to make sure the office leaves me alone," Sam said. "I don't know if I want a new roommate even if you do have to leave."

"Stil don't wanna leave," Peter admitted.

"I don't want you to leave either. For very selfish reasons, I'm afraid."

"I'll find it in my heart to forgive you," Peter said, teasing. He put down iced coffee and donuts. "How's it going?"

"Pretty good. Better than last week," he said, trying to make things light-sounding.

"Better is good," Peter said. Though he'd done it a million times before, he still looked Sam over to make sure Sam was okay.

"You know, I'm not going to disappear if you don't look at me," Sam said, smiling at the attention nonetheless as he took a donut.

"I need a reason to look at you?" Peter replied.

"I just don't want you to look and worry, that's all. I'm okay, I swear."

"Are you trying to convince me or yourself?" Peter, the annoyingly empathic boyfriend, asked.

"I can't do both at the same time?" Sam asked innocently.

"I suppose you could," Peter said. "Though I hope you know it's okay to not be okay."

"Not it's not," Sam said. "It's been a week, I should be okay by now."

"Says who?" Peter asked. "You're going to take as long as you're going to take. There's no rule about timing."

"But I should be faster. I shouldn't still be worrying," Sam said. "It seems weak."

"Are you calling my boyfriend weak?" Peter asked. "Because I may need to kick your ass."

"I'm calling him weak and kind of pathetic," Sam said, even as he smiled softly. "I'm trying though, to relax, to remember that you won't let anything bad happen to me."

"Especially not if I get advance warning," Peter said, just in case Sam had forgotten how Peter had felt about not being called.

"I won't leave you out next time, I promise," Sam said. "I mean, I hope there won't be a next time, but...if there might be--if there is, I won't leave you out."

"Thank you," Peter said. He moved to give Sam a comforting hug.

Sam relaxed into the hug, letting himself be comforted. "Thank you for putting up with me," he said.

"I love you," Peter said. He went to kiss Sam. "No matter what."

"I love you too," Sam said, before kissing Peter back eagerly.
