BWI - Portalocity Lounge [Friday Morning]

Chloe got off her flight from New York and followed the signs to the lounge. She dumped the duffle bag of clothes that Andrew had hastily purchased on the floor and slumped into one of the uncomfortable airport chairs.

She was still against this plan but she realized on the flight that sulking wouldn't make it any better so she was going to put on a brave face and make the most of it.

Ooh, trip inside Bobby's brain! Where there's totally more than a little hamster on a wheel, thank you.

Like proof that he was totally telling the truth, at least from his perspective. She'd find various memories of the team, doing superhero stuff as well as just, you know, regular teenager stuff.

Bobby's eyes narrowed and he jerked back. You didn't live with Charles Xavier and *not* learn to recognize telepathy. "Hey! What the- since when can you do that?"

Jean gaped for a moment, trying to figure out how that was even possible. "I've--I started hearing people thoughts too about half a year ago. You're not Bobby."

"Excuse me?" Bobby gaped at her. It's entirely possible the temperature in the room dropped by a few degrees with that. And not in the metaphorical sense, either.

He glanced around nervously, really hoping that everyone else was too busy meeting new people to notice that little slip.

"What do you mean I'm not Bobby?" Bobby couldn't have done what he just did! So there!

Jean noticed too and scooted closer. "Careful. I mean--you're not--you're not the Bobby I know."

"I didn't mean to!" Bobby protested, with, yeah, a little bit of a whine in there. "Is that- is that like how that blonde girl, she said she knew Hank but it wasn't the same Hank?"

"I think so?" Blond girl? "But you know me?"

Kinda.

Bobby nodded. "But you can't do the..." vague series of motions that totally indicated telepathy, "thing. Just, you know. The mind-movey stuff." It's called telekinesis, Bobby.

"Telekinesis," Jean was kind enough to supply. "Why did you get sent here?"

"I screwed up," Bobby admitted, now that he'd had more time to ~~sulk~~ think about it. "And Warren nearly got hurt because of it. Scott... wasn't happy with me." That was an understatement. "So the Professor suggested maybe some time off might be a good idea."

"My parents took me out of the institute," Jean said, looking down. She resisted the urge to try to hug him for about five seconds.

Jean-hugs were nice and familiar, even if they were coming from a different Jean. "Why'd they do something dumb like that?" he asked.

"We got into a fight with Magneto and this machine and it was all over the news," Jean replied. "And then the mansion was destroyed."

...they were young. They'd get used to that eventually.

Bobby guessed Magneto still being around was just another of those weird differences. "Destroyed?" he frowned. "But you're- I mean, everyone's okay, right?"

"Scott got all the younger students out, but... yeah."

"But the mansion was home," Bobby said. "I'm sorry," he added, even though he realised it was kind of a stupid thing to say, because sorry wasn't going to fix the mansion, god.

Jean sighed and hugged him again. "They're rebuilding now."

"Good, that's good, I'm glad," Bobby babbled, suddenly possessed of the urge to call home and make sure everyone- and everything- was still standing.
