BWI - Portalocity Lounge [Friday Morning]

Chloe got off her flight from New York and followed the signs to the lounge. She dumped the duffle bag of clothes that Andrew had hastily purchased on the floor and slumped into one of the uncomfortable airport chairs.

She was still against this plan but she realized on the flight that sulking wouldn't make it any better so she was going to put on a brave face and make the most of it.

"Elena," she offered, leaning over to light her cigarette from his match. She had a lighter, but she was going to be social. Especially with attractive boys. "Is everyone in this lounge going to the school?"

Seemed a fair question.

Well, then it was only fair that he offer an answer, wasn't it?

"I believe that would be a sound assumption for thee to make, yes. I've not heard otherwise, though I must admit to not paying such careful attention as I might. Thou art on thy way there as well, then?"

"I am," Elena said, eying him and weighing things in her mind. "I imagine I sound as though I'm speaking strangely, to you."

Either that, or the boy had his own peculiar affectations to his speech, regardless of what everyone else around him sounded like. She knew people like that, after all.

"I must admit, thy speech dost strike me as... odd."

'Yes' would have been simpler to say.

"Where dost thou hail from? I've not heard many who talk in that particular tongue."

Well, not until today, when suddenly everyone ever was using it.

"Midgar," she said carefully. Reno had said no one would jump at the name of ShinRa, but she still didn't like saying it too loudly. "It's a long way away from here. Do you remember those other dimensions they mentioned in the pamphlet?"

"I was shown no pamphlet," Tybalt noted, "nor have I heard of thine home, Midgar. I was merely informed that Fandom and the schooling therein would be my fate."

Which meant that he was kind of looking at her oddly at the mention of other dimensions, yes.

Oooooh. Bad luck on his end. Elena wondered if he'd been sent here against his will, but decided not to ask.

"It's complicated," she allowed. "Most things about this school are, from what I've heard."

"I might ask, then, what else thou hast heard of this school?"

Tybalt could handle complicated. It was walking blindly into boarding school that made him want to kick things.

"It's unusual," Elena said, noncommittally. "Not all that dangerous, but it's eccentric. Why, what have you heard?"

She knew more than that, but she wasn't so much a Rookie that she'd run her mouth for no good reason, any more.

"Not a thing, save that the island is known as Fandom, and the school the same," Tybalt replied, scowling faintly. Was it clear that he didn't want to be headed there?

Elena nodded. Definitely sent here against his will. Probably because he was trouble of some kind. That meant he would be interesting.

"I suspect there will be some kind of orientation session."

"I should hope so," Tybalt decided. "And that such an orientation will use as pain English as is possible, as well."

Yes, he was referring to his own English.

"Maybe they'll have it in different languages," Elena mused. "You can't expect everyone to speak English, much less the same English."

"A man well-versed in many tongues," Tybalt mused. "To translate for those whose tongues have never tasted the same words as we."

He liked this girl's reasoning, really.

"A man with such an experienced tongue is always a great treasure," Elena said quickly, keeping her face innocent and taking another drag from her cigarette.

Oh, Tybalt liked her.

"And it takes a lady with some measure of experience herself to properly appreciate such a man," Tybalt noted, not even missing a beat.

"I would imagine even the inexperienced lady would find ways to express her gratitude," she said, flicking a bit of ash from her cigarette. "Though her utterances might not be so eloquent."

"And the experienced gentleman ought to accept that eloquence is learned only through experience." Tybalt leaned his head backward, exhaling whisps of smoke and grinning lazily as he returned his attention back to Elena. "He might think to offer his assistance in the matter."

"Wouldn't that be generous of him," Elena noted with a wry smile. "Is he an altruist, or is he hoping to be compensated in some manner?"

"Perhaps altruism is its own reward, in his case."

Because, you know, Tybalt was such a giver. Really.
