BWI - Portalocity Lounge [Friday Morning]

Chloe got off her flight from New York and followed the signs to the lounge. She dumped the duffle bag of clothes that Andrew had hastily purchased on the floor and slumped into one of the uncomfortable airport chairs.

She was still against this plan but she realized on the flight that sulking wouldn't make it any better so she was going to put on a brave face and make the most of it.

"Elle," Tyler said, blinking a little. Give him a minute, and he'd remember who she looked like. "And Bruiser. Right. Up front is fine. You two okay sharing a seat if somebody else wants it?"

"Absolutely!" she replied cheerfully. "Making friends with other students before we get to the school, is super cool. Bruiser and I would love for anyone to share our seat. Are you a teacher at Fandom or just the bus driver?"

Tyler so wished he could get away with telling her he was just the bus driver, but he suspected that was probably the wrong impression to make. Also, if she were in one of his classes he didn't want her to think the bus driver had been promoted.

"No, I teach," he said. "Applied sciences, mostly. Chemistry."

Science was so not her thing, but she smiled pleasantly and replied: "How nice for you! How many years have you been teaching Mr...? I don't think I got your name?"

"I probably didn't give it," Tyler said with a shrug. "It's Tyler Durden. And I've been teaching since May before last? Took last term off, but I'm back."

"What grade are you in, Elle?"

"It's a pleasure Tyler Durden. I'm happy to have met you, at least one teacher from Fandom." Elle was easily pleased.

"I'm a sophomore."

"I went to the school my sophomore year," Tyler said. "It's ... not bad. Weird, but not bad."

"Oh, that's super awesome!" she exclaimed. "You're rather fond of it? Wait, you said weird? Like certain kids are weird?" Every school had those.

"I don't hate it." From Tyler, that was high praise. "And uh ... yeah. Every school has its weird kids, right?"

"The less fortunate, yes. But in my experience it always helps to befriend those kids first. They need the extra encouragement, especially if they already know they've been labeled as weird and I know how I would feel, so yay!" She grinned. "Making friends makes people happy."

... that was a lot of pep for this early in the morning.

"I'm sure you'll fit right in," he said.

Maybe she even would.

Elle was the epitome of pep. And a lot of other things that were made of sunshine and pink rainbows.

"Thank you, Mr. Durden! What a nice welcome you've given me."

"I do my best," Tyler said, smiling despite himself. "I hope you and Bruiser have a good ride to campus."

"I'm certain we will!" she replied, happily.

She was so putting together a gift basket for him!
