The Danger Shop was set up like a runway in Milan. There were lights! There was noise! There were stick figures with big poofy lips complaining as their hair was put up into ridiculous coifs backstage with the students!

"Hello, darlings," Edna said, wheeling the rack of costumes (save one, naturally) into the room. "You have all proven to be...mostly adequate...these last few weeks in terms of creativity and not being blown up. Today you will demonstrate the lines and flow of my beautiful costumes!" Her hands flew up over her head.

"...which you also helped to design, et cetera, et cetera," she finally added. "Get changed, listen for the music and then strut, darlings! Try not to trip over things and end up on Youtube." She pointed at Shilo. "And you. You are very lucky not to be shot full of lasers yesterday. Detention for breaking into my workshop!"

With that she disappeared through the curtain to join the audience.

Dinah paused. "Edna? Joking? You've been here all session, right?" Stomp. Stand up. Wobble. "What did she do?"

"You know what she did!" Arthur called back, "We're walking in it."

Okay, that got a glare of disbelief. "She put up posters about it yesterday! And we've been trying them on and modifying them and fighting giant spiders in them all semester! How can you be surprised?!"

"I didn't think she was actually going to go through with it!"

The stomping he wasn't going to do on the runway was happening now.

"I mean, look at this. You'd have to be deranged to wear this in public."

Beat.

"...There were giant spiders?"

Dinah belatedly remembered that he wasn't in class last week. "And alligators. And climbing up a building. And missiles." A pause. "And an obstacle course and a trampoline."

Yeah, that might be glee there.

"I missed giant spiders?" Arthur asked. Like he hadn't been irate and offended before. "Worthless. That woman must have been dropped on her head as a child."

Dinah maintained a politic silence on that subject. Also, Arthur's snit-fit had kind of settled her own nerves. With a last stomp, she put on her jacket and flipped her ponytail over her shoulder.

"Does that mean you're going to bail out?"

He threw her a look that was positively murderous in a kind of understated, Arthurly way. "I don't bail out," he said, flatly.

Dinah beamed back at him, thoroughly, evilly, and satisfyingly entertained for the moment. At least until she got within sight of the runway again, probably. "Goody. See you on the runway then." And after a pause: "Nice epaulet. Thing."

Arthur wore leather pants on a regular basis, and yet he still believed fabric wasn't supposed to cling to your arse just this hard. "Go do your hair," he ordered.
