Library [06/24]

Since Peter was still bunnified, Sam didn't have much of a choice but to bring him along for his library shift. That wasn't something Sam minded, of course - Peter usually only came by in the afternoons, so having him with him today meant Sam had someone to talk to all day long.

Poor, poor Peter.

Sam took some time to check his e-mail and favorite news sites, and let Peter rest in his lap. He made sure to cover Peter's eyes any time a questionable e-mail came up, before he blasted it away.

Sam had cookies to share with Dean today, and plenty of food for Peter. Thankfully, he was pretty sure that neither one of them would try to eat what he'd brought for the other.

Dean came in carrying two bags of food and a bunch of carrots.

Sam noticed the carrots, and laughed. "So I'm not the only one wanting to spoil Peter, huh?" he said.

"It's rude not to bring food for everyone," Dean said. "Nothing to do with spoiling."

"I'm sure he'll appreciate them, if he's hungry," Sam said. "I think I might have been feeding him too much."

"It's all rabbit food," Dean pointed out. "It's not fattening."

Sam snickered. "I don't know if rabbit food is as slimming for rabbits as it is for humans," he said. "Still, I appreciate the help in taking care of him. How are you doing?"

"I'm always good," he said with a smirk.

"Sometimes you're better than others. I wouldn't be a good brother if I didn't ask."

"You're the one having drama this week," Dean pointed out. "Or bunnies at least."

"I really miss Peter, even though he's here," Sam said, reaching over to pet him a little. "Is that weird?"

"Nah. Not to me at least," Dean said. "Makes perfect sense."

"I mean, I know it's just a Fandom thing, and he'll be fine in a few days," Sam said. "I think I've gotten spoiled by having him around all the time."

Sam was lounging at the desk with Peter in his lap again, reading out loud to him. He'd been nice and grabbed a comic book, so he wouldn't put Peter to sleep.

"Hey," Peyton said a little shyly. "So... how's it going?"

"Peyton, hey," Sam said, smiling at her. "It's going well. Er, sort of," he said, motioning to the bunny in his lap. "Better for me than for Peter. How are you?"

"Aw, poor Peter," Peyton said, smiling at the bunny. "But at least he's got you to take good care of him."

"I'm... okay. Wasn't sure if you were still talking to me or not."

"I'm certainly trying to take care of him," Sam said. "And of course I'm still talking to you. Whatever happened with you and Dean doesn't change us being friends."

Peyton shrugged a little uncomfortably. "He says we're still friends, but I've been a little scared to test that out and see if he really meant it, so... And I know it - I - probably didn't make much sense to him. It's all - I just made such a mess of everything as usual. But I'd hoped you were still talking to me."

She laughed a little ruefully. "Of course it's taken me how long to come and check in?"

"It doesn't matter how much time has passed. We're still friends," Sam assured her. "And I'm sure Dean feels the same way."

"Thanks," she said warmly. "And I hope so. He means... a hell of a lot to me."

"Anyway, he helped me reconnect with my bio mom and it looks like the CD's going to be finished pretty soon. Just waiting for some legal stuff on a couple of the bands and we'll be good."

"Really? That's great," Sam said happily. "I'm kind of amazed by how you got all that together."

She smiled shyly. "Once I got the first band to commit it all just sort of fell together."

"I'm glad it did," Sam replied. "You know, for the good cause and everything, and I think your mom will be proud."

"I hope so," Peyton said, but her smile was a little sad.

I'm around, but cleaning, so I might be a bit slow. :)
