Seven Secrets to Success - Period Five - Wednesday, 6/17

Today, the classroom was made up much like the hallways of a certain mining ship and near the entrance, there were a number of trolleys.

"Today's class is simple, cadets," he assured them as he looked his students over (all four of them).

"Today... we learn diligence. Today, we learn that every duty is important if it is a duty given to you, that slacking in any form is toxic to your chances of success, and delicious chocolate-covered bon-bons to the demons of failure!"

Rimmer breathed out, which was largely useless but it made him feel better.

"These carts are for you to use in ~~handwavily~~ servicing the soup dispensers on this floor. The instructions are included, as well as all the tools you will need. I will go around observing your progress.

"When you're done, you're welcome to relax in the mess hall."

Of course, he didn't tell them how he'd be grading them for this, but that was because he was a mean-spirited smeghead.

Blair Waldorf? Do labor? Oh no.

"What exactly is a soup dispenser?" Agnes asked. "And how are we supposed to 'service' them?"

She was fairly certain it didn't involve performing sexual favors on cafeteria workers, but beyond that she wasn't sure. Mostly certain. It sounded like he wanted them to fix some sort of machine, and that just was going to suck.

Nostrils flared, he peered at Agnes.

"Can you read?" he asked her simply.

Agnes looked over at the manuals on the carts, and then back at him, and gave him a sweet smile. "We don't get any sort of hint before we start working?" she asked?

"It's a machine," he said, pointing down the hall to one of them which flashed with a few random lights in traditional science fiction fashion, "and you'll need to use the tools" that looked much like pipe cleaners "to make sure they're working properly."

"So that they properly... dispense soup... in the hallway?" Agnes asked. "Wouldn't it make more sense to have some sort of mess hall for that?"

~~You would think that.~~

"For men on long shifts," he explained.

"Soup in cups for easy sipping. Now get on with it. Go, go, scoot, leave, get working."

"Right, of course, how silly of me."

Agnes headed off to choose a cart and start reading through the manual.

Using the tools provided and the manual on the top of your cart. Use the wrong tool and he might complain.

Agnes read over the directions a few times before attempting to service her first dispenser.

She... didn't do it BADLY, per se, just not all that well.

Hurley was still tired from his previous class. He was totally not working up to snuff.

Don't show up TOO early.

Poor Turtle.

If the fact that Turtle is still diligently dedicated to the duties given to her as a TA for this class weren't enough to show her....diligence,...well, she didn't know what would.

He was here after class, during class, before class. He didn't actually have a SOCIAL LIFE, after all.

Slightly lame class is slightly lame. Brains not entirely recovered. HAVE SEEN NEW GHOSTBUSTERS GAME, however: is MADE OF SHINY AND WIN.
