Arts & Crafts [Period 1, 6/1]

Sophie was burying her yawns in a cup of coffee as she greeted the class. "Good morning, I'm Sophie Devereaux. I'm substituting for Mr. Rogers this week; he had an out-of-town emergency. He's left me instructions on how you can all make lanyards, though, as well as key chains, if you prefer. Have fun with the beads and cords, and, well. I can't really answer any questions. I'm a fan of art, not an artist. Have at it!"

Squid belt.

That was the most awesome idea ever.

"I bet it would look great on you, too!"

Because... she really had the hips to properly pull off the squid look? Maybe it was best Zack not think on the specifics, too much.

"I have a knack for that," Claudia said with a smile as she tugged on her snake bracelet. "I've been wearing interesting clothes for years."

"You're one of those people who likes to get all expressive when organizing a wardrobe, huh?" Zack grinned, though it was a little sheepish. "I think I'm about the opposite, in that regard. I don't have much to wear, aside from my uniforms."

Sure, he made the 'purple jumpsuit with armor' look half decent and all. But he was kind of lacking in variety. A lot.

"Oh, Lord, my roommate has the same problem!" Claudia said. "All he wears are these bathrobes. I'm totally going to accessorize him. I can help you, too!"

"Accessories? Really?"

Well, if Zack had known that accessories were all that it took to make a statement...

"What kind of accessories? Bangles, belts, armlets? Stuff like that?"

Only on Zack's world could a guy go out in public wearing a ribbon, a pair of earrings, and a pearl necklace, and not only not get laughed at, but also be considered ready for battle.

"Yes, all of that! Maybe a hat, too," Claudia mused.

"I could totally pull off a hat," Zack decided. The decision was followed up by a grin and a bit of a bounce, for good measure. "Though I'd probably have to contend with hat-hair, too, huh? Mine does have a bit of volume to it."

Volume in that special sort of way that kind of made him look like he was aspiring to become a hedgehog.

"We can work around it," Claudia assured him. "My boyfriend has totes awesome hair and we don't want it getting crushed."

"Nooo crushing the hair," Zack laughed, reaching up to run a hand through his own. It bounced back into place as soon as he left it alone again. It was a wonder he was worried about hat-hair at all, really. "I'm going to trust your judgment there, then. Since you know what you're talking about, and all!"

"It's totes statement hair," she said. "We might just concentrate on belts and cool shoes and maybe some sparkle."

Don't let her near you with a bedazzler, Zack.

"Oh, belts, I can do!" He could! He was wearing three. If there was any one accessory he happened to know his way around, it was a belt. "And I've never been one to turn down a little sparkle. I can't put it on this outfit, it's ShinRa issue and they'd have fits if I did, but maybe I can pick up a shirt or something? Ooh, or, like, sparkly belts!"

He was going to get bedazzled, wasn't he?

Totally bedazzled. Vampires will have nothing on his sparkly magic if she had her way.

"I love sparkly belts!"

Zack Fair could totally outsparkle a Cullen if he was properly bedazzled and he put his mind to it!

"They're eye-grabbing!"

Yes. They brought people's eyes down to... Actually, Zack had never considered that fact. Mostly, he just liked belts.

"But not literally, right?" Claudia said because she'd been at Fandom for a while now, yeah. "Because that'd be kinda icky."

... Huh. Ew.

"That would be really icky," Zack agreed, paling slightly. "I'm going to go with figuratively speaking, I think, just because I don't think I ever want to see somebody's clothing try to steal someone else's eyes."

"Omigod, if I just gave the island an idea, I am so sorry," she said, clapping a hand over her mouth.

"Do you think goggles are a perfectly valid accessory? Or some kind of face mask? I mean, in case of inspired islands creating eye-grabbing clothing, I could probably just put on my helmet, but that messes with the hair, again."

Priorities!

"Maybe some cool glasses," Claudia said. "Like Ray-Bans?"

"I'm not really familiar with the brand name," Zack mused. Being from a different world could do that, after all. "But glasses might totally work, yeah! They're functional and fashionable! All the better for... keeping belts from stealing eyeballs?"

He was still new-ish to Fandom. He had to actually pause and get his head around that sentence before he could speak it aloud.

Claudia nodded, grinning a little. "It gets easier to say really weird things like that the longer you spend here."

"Then I guess you've been around for a while, huh?" There was some weird sort of comfort in knowing that he'd just made a friend who was fashion-minded and a veteran of a few odd Fandom events. "I hear that the island has been pretty easy on us new kids so far. Some glitter, some moose, some alligators. Everyone kind of has me holding my breath waiting for something really weird. Like the eye-grabbing clothing."

Wednesday, Zack. Just wait.

"There was a weekend when everyone turned into the little kid version of themselves," Claudia said. "That was weird."

"Weird, but I bet it was fun," Zack decided, bouncing in his seat as he made a reach for some more beads. Maybe he could make a matching squid? "I wouldn't mind being a little kid again, I don't think. Everything is simpler, when you're little."

"I got to babysit," Claudia said. "Everyone else got to jump in puddles and fingerpaint."

"Oh, less fun." Zack made a bit of a face. "Sorry to hear it. But then, what's stopping you from jumping in puddles and fingerpainting now? I mean, on days when there are puddles. I have some fingerpaints, actually."

He'd picked them up for purely educational purposes, dang it.
