Detention, Danger Shop and Beyond, 8 AM till 2 PM

"Morning," Mitchell greeted; he was starting to look less like he'd been on a bender the longer he was staying off the blood, and so this morning he actually looked fairly fit and chipper for the job. "You're all here because you've misbehaved, and the school's appointed me for your punishment. I'm Mitchell." Beat. "Don't call me professor. It makes me feel old."

He left the sign-in sheet on the desk at the front of the class.

"Today, we're putting you all to work," he said, "We've got a lot of dead alligators out there, so I hope you know how to get out some bloodstains. Then we'll come back around to the Danger Shop for lunch and you'll hear the rest of it."

Mitchell grinned at the class. "We'll have proper detention." It was possible that, for all his heartfelt dedication to the job of being human, he wasn't, in fact, all that good at it.

"Oh, and let me know if you're squeamish."

Mitchell used to clean at a hospital. He had different ideas about disgusting.

Since she couldn't eat the scones or drink the tea, Fiona settled on the couch and sunk into the cushions trying to figure out which of the disturbing things about her would be the least damaging.

Maybe the professor wouldn't notice her?

Not a chance.

"Come on!" said Mitchell. He was being encouraging. While grinning. "We're all sharing here. Zack knows how to hose himself off so he doesn't track alligator bits into the school!"

"I took a shower?" she ventured carefully. Could she piggyback off of Zack's comment?

Probably not.

"Pick a category, then."

"Food?" he tried, "That usually gets the best of stories."

Oh, Mitchell. "You're not touching your scones, for one." Too stereotypical?

Oh, that one was easy enough.

"I can't eat or drink. Ever. Anything."

She realized, however, that her response might come off as rude.

"But thank you for the scones anyway. The thought was nice."

"Don't mention it," he said, automatically. First Zack and his genetics thing, now this? "Sounds as if there's a story there."

He bit down on a scone. Yes. Definitely too stereotypical. Or maybe it was the still-lingering scent of blood and death around here.

"There is," she admitted, "though it's not a pleasant story."

She was just glad the scones didn't have chocolate.

Mitchell shot the rest of his circle a slight, almost imperceptible look. "Well," he said, "I'm sure you've got loads of other ones on offer."

It did take the edge off of his somewhat desperate cheer.

"...they're all kind of disturbing," she had to admit.

She was really starting to hate this more than the cleaning.

He was really good at sounding like he actually felt so, too.

She could've been talking about Vin Diesel and the response would've been the same.

"All right," she finally said, lifting her head.
