Spy Games, Class 3, Monday period 5

When the class filed in, they didn't find Sarah waiting for them, but a rather familiar looking priest.

"Hello class," he greeted them. "Your teacher couldn't be here today so she asked me to fill in for her. I'm Father Winchester.

"Our sermon today is on disguises. Yeah, sure you can get a lot of information by the breaking and entering route, but sometimes you're going to have to interact with people. Sometimes you're going to want to blend in, get them to not notice you. Other times you're going to want to get them to trust you, tell you things they might not ordinarily do so. Disguises are an important tool in both situations.

"Say you need to check some medical records -- you're going to have a lot better chance of getting to them without incident if you dress like you belong, some scrubs or a white coat and suddenly youre an orderly or a doctor and no one's looking at you twice or questioning why you're roaming the halls or going into that office.

"Or say someone's died and you think there's something hinky about it. The family's in mourning, they're not going to want to talk to just any Joe Blow about the details." Dean put on his most pious expression. "But a priest paying a courtesy call to pay his respects and offer his condolences, now that's someone they'll feel comfortable talking about the gory details to."

Dean grinned at them. "Every situation is going to be different, but with a little ingenuity you can come up with a disguise to fit. Need to get into a place and have some uninterrupted time there? How about posing as exterminators that are spraying for something that requires an empty house? All you need is to think outside the box."

He gestured to a set of racks full of all sorts of clothing and boxes of accessories. "Over there is a broad selection of things you can use to create a disguise. What I want you to do is to not only put together a disguise but come up with a senario where that particular disguise would be useful. Extra points given for originality."

Sam tried not to stare, but the outfit was covering so little, and god help him, he was still a teenage boy, no matter how strong his morals were.

"Uh, I can do that, yeah," he said, not covering his eyes as that might have seemed rude. "What would you use that outfit for, out of curiosity?"

Sarcasm was both a natural defense and Karla's preferred method of communication. "For making housecalls as a Healer!" she snapped, rolling her eyes. Frustrated was better than embarrased. "Alternately, I suppose I could use it for infiltrating a Red Moon House. A lot of males visit them, and a lot of those males are part of the First and Second Circles of their Courts, at least if you infiltrate a high-class House. And males are willing to say a lot of things to impress females, even whores. Or will accidentally let things drop because they don't think the whores will understand the significance. And, according to the coven, pillow-talk can be subtly directed, since he won't be thinking too clearly." She rolled her eyes again.

It didn't take a great deal of extra knowledge to figure out what the Red Moon House was, and that only made Sam blush harder. "That's a very good idea--I mean, it sounds like that idea has a lot of merit. Especially the bit about not thinking clearly."

Seeing how Sam hadn't asked about the wall yet? Yeah, making men not think clearly was an obvious advantage.

"Thank you. I snuck into a Red Moon House once, so I can verify some of that firsthand." Though she'd only been in for a few minutes before the madame had found her and bundled her out of the establishment and into a coach back to her estate. But Surreal, the assassin who moonlights as a whore to get close to her targets provides an excellent canon example, too, not that Karla's met her yet. "Can you please go run this by your brother to make sure it's okay, so I can go change?"

Karla was NOT begging. She was ordering with a slightly higher pleading-to-imperious ratio than normal, was all.

Thinking about Karla going into a place like that would have been completely counter-productive to Sam's attempts to regain control over the higher-functioning sections of his brain, so he stuck to the main issue at hand. "Yeah, I'll go talk to him. I'll, uh, be right back."

After handwavily talking to Dean, complete with blushing and minor flailing, Sam made his way back over to her. "He said it's okay and you're good for the assignment," he said, leaving out the parts that could lead to Dean getting hit. "Do you need any help? With anything else, I mean. I won't--I'm sure you can--with your clothes and all yourself." His brain might have been working again, but his mouth hadn't quite caught up yet.

Man, someone must have cranked the heat up again, because Karla's face was back to being bright red. Not that she was blushing, mind. Her not-blush actually extended pretty far down, going beyond her so-called neckline. "I, uhhh, think I'll be okay by myself," she said hastily. "I'll just stay behind my sight-shield and there shouldn't be a problem. Though if you wanted to stay over there," she waved to the other side of the shield, "and make sure no one wanders by, I'd be appreciative."

"I can do that," Sam said quickly, and not just because it would keep him from looking at her too hard. "I'm a very good guard, really." He moved away until he was outside the shield again, and stayed there, ready to be on the lookout for anyone getting too close.

Karla was changed in record time, silently thanking the Darkness for her old cast-offs. Ratty or not, they, at least, covered her properly. She kind of wished she could just cower behind the sight-shield until class ended, but she was determined not to let Sam know how uncomfortable she'd been in that outfit because it totally wasn't obvious. "Uhhh...thanks," she told him, examining her shoes intently. Not that she was avoiding looking at him, she just wanted to do a detailed inventory of their appearance, in case she ever had to describe them minutely.

"You're welcome," Sam said, trying to sound calm in an effort to keep Karla from feeling embarrassed. "If it makes you feel better, I don't think anyone got into the assignment as much as you did."

That at least pulled her gaze away from her shoes. "Thanks," she said. "I was originally thinking of dressing up like a servant, because no one gets better gossip than the household servants." Karla had eavesdropped on enough servant conversations to know this for fact. "But the problem with servants is you won't know how to dress properly without some observation time. Some wear uniforms, some wear the family colors or crests, some just wear regular clothing. Also, you don't want to be dressed too nicely, or not nicely enough. And, there's always the trouble that unless you're in a huge estate, most of the servants are known to one another. Whores, on the other hand, well, they're pretty much the same in any House."

"Here too, in the sorts of places where people do that sort of thing. Or so I've heard," Sam said quickly. "Um. I mean, it's kind of amazing how that's a universal thing."

Karla just shrugged. "Human nature is human nature. And sex is part of human nature."

It was amazing how much easier it was to discuss sex when it was in purely academic terms. Or, at least, had nothing to do with Karla.
