Fashion! Releasing Your Inner Superhero, etc. [Thursday, May 21, 1st period]

"Today we will begin the most important part of your costumes!" Edna announced as she wheeled in a hanging rack full of spandex body suits. Oh, you lucky people, you. (Don't ask how that last one snuck in there. It had been a Very Terrible Costume Concept.) "Measurements!"

She ignored any horrified looks or attempts to hide under tables. "Ms. Davis, my assistant," she nodded at Brooke, "and I will be measuring you so that the costumes you create for yourselves will fit! While you are waiting, come up with two preliminary concepts for your ensemble--include your logo from last week on one of them--and then ask a fellow student to critique!"

She made shooing motions. "Go! Scatter! Create!" She pointed at one student at random. "Except you. You get to wear Spandex first, darling."

Alice was staring at the costumes.

"Why on earth should I wear something that ghastly?" she asked.

"Because that way I can get accurate measurements for you to make something great!" Edna proclaimed. "These are merely prototypes made with old material."

That was, at least, reasonable.

"In that case, why aren't we nude?" Alice asked. "That would be more accurate than spandex, however form-fitting."

Alice: failed at Victorian sometimes.

"Have you seen the whining over these very reasonable costumes?" Edna asked. "Stripping down to nothing would have been even more of a headache for me and it is far too early to deal with that level of imbecility."

"Valid point," Alice frowned. "Very well, so long as this is temporary."

With that, she whisked herself off to change.

Edna was waiting to measure her when she returned.

Alice was walking funny when she returned. "These are not the most ... comfortable of outfits," Alice frowned, attempting once again to keep the material from digging into places that she prefer stay un-digged.

Very classy.

"You get used to them," Edna said. "They are very streamlined for wearing under regular clothing, if you must rip those off to save the day or something."

"They aren't terribly flattering, either," Alice said, inhaling and exhaling and examining the pooch of her stomach. "Although I suppose no one likes how they appear in the altogether. Still, it would be rather humiliating to lose or gain a small amount of weight and have one's spandex no longer fit properly."

"That's what flattering cuts and stripes are for, darling!" Edna exclaimed. "I once know a superhero who had gotten enormous, but he still fit into his suit. I am very good at what I do."

"I suppose, as you're the expert and I've no real sense of fashion, I should leave this entirely to you," Alice said easily.

Alice did not hear the ominous clap of DOOM that followed those words.
