My Life as a Buddy Movie | Period 2 | Wednesday | May 20

Loki was almost expecting to be met at the doors of the school by security, telling him he'd fucked up enough last week that he wasn't welcome back and they'd be filling his spot with educational movies about sexual education and not smoking. Luckily that wasn't the case and he was back in the classroom early enough to set up a few things for today's class.

Once everyone had arrived and was settled, he stood up and made his way to the front of the classroom. "Morning. I hope everyone slept well and wore clothes that they don't mind getting a little wet."

Oh, had he forgotten to warn them? Oh, darn.

"Once upon a time, a guy I worked went fucking insane," he said, almost fondly. "He got power hungry and that blinded him to what we were trying to accomplish. He lost my trust and then he lost his head."

Poor Bartleby.

"For him, losing my trust wasn't a huge thing because he really didn't give a fuck by then. He was too far gone, too uncaring about losing a friend he'd had for fucking centuries to really try and regain my trust." He was a little sore about that. "But, losing trust in a relationship often spells fucking doom. You're not going to work well with each other if you're constantly expecting your partner to stab you in the fucking back, literally or metaphorically."

He'd been stabbed in the back before. It fucking hurt like a mofo.

"Some may argue that it's possible to continue a working relationship without trust and they'd be right. Keep your friends close and your enemies fucking closer but it's not going to be a very productive relationship. When you trust someone, you trust them to have your back and your front. You trust them to buy you an extra fucking donut for breakfast and to cover your ass if the cops show up with a warrant for your fucking arrest. You really think someone who doesn't trust you isn't going to dime your ass out if that happens? Probably fucking not."

He'd known people like that too. Fucking jackasses.

"And, like everything in relationships, trust has to be gained and it has to be maintained. You can't just meet someone and the trust is there. It's a constant, ever evolving thing that can be destroyed in a matter of fucking seconds. Don't think that because you're pretty or you're smart, everyone's going to trust you. Work on it. Be conscious that it's an entity that can be your best friend or your worst fucking enemy and it's a fickle fucking beast."

Ah, personal experience. It helped so much in this class.

"For today, we're going to be doing two things. You can do one, you can do both, or you can just stare at me. Your choice. First activity is trust falls. Partner up with someone and take turns doing this. One person falls into the other person's arms blindly, essentially. You have to trust the other person to catch you. I don't want to see any sissy falling either. If I see it, you're going to be trust falling with me. The second activity is water gun Russian roulette."

Oh yes.

"It's amazing what you can get a nerd to rig for you." He pointed to an assorted row of bright pink water pistols that had been rigged up to work for this activity. "And I've gone behind him and rigged each water gun specifically for each student. You have to pull your water gun's trigger three times. If the water hits you, you lose. If it doesn't, you win. If you point the gun at me, you really lose. You might ask what this proves about trust, right? Well, you're just going to have to trust that I'm a nice guy and didn't want to get any of you wet."

He wasn't a nice guy and most of those were rigged to spray water but he could still lie like a fucking rug.

"You have to trust your partner for the trust falls and you have to trust me for the water gun fun. Get to it."

Once he was done rambling, he leaned against the edge of his desk and waited for the class to start the activities.

Trusting people in this context, might actually be something Effy could do.

She wouldn't necessarily do it happily, but she wasn't about to be a wimp about it either.

"Hello!" she said, to all appearances utterly cheerful. "I don't suppose you'd care to be my partner?"

Oh, god, the cheerful, it burned.

Effy eyed Maron a moment, and gave a resigned nod. "Fine." At least she knew this one. "You'd better be as light as you look."

Aw, wasn't that a comforting response!

There was nothing wrong with being cheerful!

Maron raised her chin imperiously. The smile kind of spoiled that. "I'm quite light, thank you," she said primly. "Shall I assume the same for you?"

In general, Effy found an excess of cheerful just a bit grating. She certainly didn't bother showing it herself, unless a situation actually warranted it. Effort.

"Of course," she assured the other girl, lips twitching in a slight show of amusement at the juxtaposing attitudes. If anything, it was going to be all the strings of chain around her neck that would change that.

"Faller, or fallee first?"

At least as far as trust falls went, if his partner wasn't trustworthy, the floor wasn't too far away. So trusting, this one.

Fiona walked over to Griff since, well, there was trust there anyway. There was no reason to make the exercise any harder, was there?

"Want to pair up with me?"

He raised a teasing eyebrow at her. "Sure I won't let you fall?"

She grinned at him mischievously and leaned forward to peer into his face for a few moments, blue eyes bright.

"Hmmm. I don't think you will," she observed as she stepped back.

"The only question now is which one of us goes first."

"With that look, think I'll let you go ahead," Griff replied, taking the mischievous look as likely to see how hard he'd hit the ground.

Hurley stood, and contemplated a bit.

He wasn't going to ask anyone to catch him. That would probably end badly.

Gwen looked about for a partner, remember the last time she'd had to do these as part of her police training.

Jon stood quietly by her for a moment and then smiled. "Promise not to drop me? I'm fragile," he joked.

Gwen grinned back and made a show of cracking her knuckles. "Don't worry, as my Gran used to say we breed them sturdy in Cardiff."

That made him laugh. "Oooh. I may have to visit if they're all like you. You want to go first or do you want me too?"

"You first," Gwen said, smiling. "Given your delicate condition."

Cute girl. Three guess on who Marco came over to partner up with. "Hi."

Ellie figured she could trust most of the other students in class, so she waited for someone to pair up with.

"Hello," Raven said, approaching Ellie. "Are you in need of a partner for this?"

Ellie smiled at the girl. "Yeah, I could use one. I'm Ellie."

Jack looked around for someone he trusted not to drop him on his head.
