Flight & Flying [Tuesday, May 19, 4th period]

Anakin was almost smiling today as the class met in the Danger Shop. Creepy.

"Today we're going to continue with land-based transportation," he said quietly, pointing to two motorcycle-esque machines hovering on either side him. "This is a swoop bike," he said, pointing to one, "and the one on the left is a speeder bike, the slightly newer model, which is also equipped with a laser cannon. Don't use the laser cannon, please. Both fly like the motorcycles of your world drive, but can get up to 400 kilometers an hour. That being said, you will be wearing helmets and there are two different scenarios based on your level of skill. One is a city planet with very tall buildings to miss. The second is a forest moon with trees hundreds of meters tall."

He gave the class a tight smile. "Please don't hit a tree or a building and explode. There will be mocking. If you do it intentionally, there will be detention."

He clapped his hands. "Begin."

There's plenty of standing around time. Be glad Anakin hasn't tried to get you all to do situps or something while you wait.

Rose - still wasn't entirely certain how to go about this though she was covering it pretty well with faked confidence. She also was really glad Blysse had mentioned the weird room-thing yesterday or she'd be wondering how exactly they fit a city and forest into the room.

She grinned at his statement of the obvious. "I am. You're not then?"

"I've been here almost a year," Ben replied. "And I remember faces. I'm Ben Skywalker." He made a tiny face and tilted his head towards Anakin. "Some relation."

"Rose Hathaway," she said offering her hand. "Then you can tell me what to avoid?" She followed his glance to the teacher. "You're his little brother?"

Rose looked from Ben to Master Skywalker again, disbelief evident on her face. "No freakin' way."

"Pretty much exactly what he said," Ben said with a smile. "His son is significantly older than he is, back in my world."

"That's officially the weirdest thing I've heard here," Rose told him with a quick grin. "But you probabaly get that a lot."

"I really do," Ben agreed. "Our family reaches new heights in weirdness. That's a version of my grandfather, who is significantly younger than he should be," also, alive, "a cousin of mine is around here who's supposed to be fifteen years older than I am and isn't, and a version of my dad who graduated two years ago."

While he was waiting, Zayne was doing his best not to compare this swoop to the swoops back in his time. He was really struggling to avoid being a massive dork right now. It wasn't easy.

"Tease all you want, but this is my week," Zayne said with a big, nerdy grin. "When I'm crashing airplanes later on, I'll still be able to remember this lesson fondly."

"Hey," Tahiri defended herself, "it's not like I said there was anything wrong with your big thing for swoops."

Tahiri glanced over at the bikes and shrugged, though not out of apathy. "Pretty much, yeah. You'd be better off asking Jaina or Ben for more technical details, though. Not really my strong point."

"Oh, I wouldn't really get anything too technical anyway," Zayne said. "I'm just surprised that they look almost exactly the same as they do in my time. I would have imagined... I don't know, some difference over a couple thousand years."

"If it isn't broken, don't fix it?" Tahiri suggested with a shrug. "I mean, just because a design is old doesn't mean it needs to be improved or anything."

She might unconsciously have been echoing a sentiment she'd heard more than a couple of times from the owner of a certain YT-1300 Corellian light freighter, maybe. Maybe.

Anemone hated standing around. Hate hate hate. She'd never been good at waiting; not when she was ten, or at fourteen, or now.

As much as she was twitching to get on a bike, she really just wanted to go play in the trees from the second scenario. They weren't real, but she still wanted to climb one so that she could touch the sky.
