As her class came in, she smiled a little; it was nice to see familiar faces, after all, especially considering her recent troubled thoughts on the subject of teaching. It made her feel as if she was doing something instead of just standing in front of a room droning.

"Well, it's very nice to see all of you again, and I'm happy to see new faces as well. My name is Professor Garrett, though if you shout DCI, I will more than likely respond to that as well. I hold a ThD and have worked in the field of forensic sorcery for more than a decade of active duty. Suffice to say, I know the subject."

She walked from one end of the class to the other, glad she'd made sure to have their syllabi on their desks.

"Magick should always be done with consideration and foresight. Or rather, such would it be in a perfect world. Unfortunately, the world likes to get in the way with false leads, deadly dangers, and other such niceties, which is why you should always be prepared to do your magick at a moment's notice in some cases. This class is to prepare you for that eventuality: imperfect timing, imperfect tools, imperfect situations. This is rough and tumble sorcery, which is certainly no exact science, but I'm here to teach you the class so I like to think I know something on the matter.

"Today is just for introductions, however. Name, class or age as you feel comfortable, your experience with magick, and your experience with having to do so in less than optimal conditions if you might have such a situation you can share."

"If we were, I'd've brought the good beer," Tony said. "You're Canadian, too? Where from?"

"Which does exist, no matter what Americans think. Lucan, Ontario." Diana replied. "You?"

"Vancouver," Tony said. "You're one of the new kids, right?"

Diana nodded. "I take it you're not?"

"Been here since fall," Tony said. "You have magic in your Canada?"

The question almost threw Diana, but she stayed put. "Close enough. You?"

"Yeah," Tony said. "I'm kind of a wizard."

Diana snorted. "How can you be kind of a wizard? And where's your robe, hat, and possibly wand and/or staff?"

"I'm learning. And they're at the cleaners," Tony retorted. "What do you have that's 'close enough' to magic?"

"I patch up holes in the fabric of reality." Diana informed him. "Do you get a staff when you're done learning?"

"No," Tony said. "Do you use duct tape or superglue?"

"Duct tape." Diana said instantly. "Superglue takes too long to dry."

"How very Canadian of you," Tony said.

"And that's why we are invading." Diana informed him.
