As her class came in, she smiled a little; it was nice to see familiar faces, after all, especially considering her recent troubled thoughts on the subject of teaching. It made her feel as if she was doing something instead of just standing in front of a room droning.

"Well, it's very nice to see all of you again, and I'm happy to see new faces as well. My name is Professor Garrett, though if you shout DCI, I will more than likely respond to that as well. I hold a ThD and have worked in the field of forensic sorcery for more than a decade of active duty. Suffice to say, I know the subject."

She walked from one end of the class to the other, glad she'd made sure to have their syllabi on their desks.

"Magick should always be done with consideration and foresight. Or rather, such would it be in a perfect world. Unfortunately, the world likes to get in the way with false leads, deadly dangers, and other such niceties, which is why you should always be prepared to do your magick at a moment's notice in some cases. This class is to prepare you for that eventuality: imperfect timing, imperfect tools, imperfect situations. This is rough and tumble sorcery, which is certainly no exact science, but I'm here to teach you the class so I like to think I know something on the matter.

"Today is just for introductions, however. Name, class or age as you feel comfortable, your experience with magick, and your experience with having to do so in less than optimal conditions if you might have such a situation you can share."

Hurried!

It's not long, but she's not too strict about these things.

"Abigail Irene Garrett, servant of the crown, and your instructor. You'll get the benefit of my experience throughout this course, so I think I'll save the anecdotes for then."

One's been picked IC and OOC, one's yet to be picked IC.

"I have one slot open for a teaching assistant if anyone is interested. The more eyes the better on this subject, I feel."

Now I think I go to work omg!

Eleanor Robinson

Eleanor listened carefully, everything she said certainly made sense.

"Eleanor Robinson, I'm a newly arrived second-year," if that made sense, "and I'm an apprentice Fire Mage."

She considered the other part of the Professor's request. Her experience. "There was a situation I was involved in, where another mage was drawing upon some rather horrific dark magic and I and one other mage had to stop her."

Which wasn't the whole story, but close enough for now.

Jack Priest

"Jack Priest, and I am a senior," Jack stated. "I've never studied magic, but as I'm from your world I thought it might serve me well to take this class."

Alex Russo

She eyed him for a moment, somewhat uneasy with this even as she felt a thrill at the thought of someone from her own world.

"As you are from my world, there is the question of the legality of your place in my class," she pointed out to him quietly, "as I would be instructing you in thaumaturgy at an unlicensed school without marking you properly for such training."

But she'd thought over this ever since they'd met at the picnic and she already had her answer.

"However, we are currently in the United States, and as I am outside of my jurisdiction as a servant of the Crown in both time and space, I trust we can wave such formalities. The needs of this place require one to be versed in as much useful information as possible."

And she would feel guilty if anything happened to him because she didn't teach him something that could be useful in a crisis situation.

She looked out at the class.

"This goes for all of you: if there is something which would make you uncomfortable or which would endanger you, you are welcome to keep it to yourself. If there is something in this class that you find uncomfortable or information that would endanger you, I would ask you to speak to me privately and we will figure out something to do to ensure your safety."

Then she turned to Eleanor.

"Thank you, however, for sharing what you did."

Dōjima was there, sipping at her coffee and paying avid attention to both Garrett-sensei and the students.

"Thank you, my lady," she replied promptly, with a bit of a bow.

It was hardly endangering anymore since Alison was dead, so it didn't bother her to share that much. And she'd worry about other past issues if they ever came up.

"I assumed you would have cleared questions of the proprieties before accepting my enrollment," Jack said, equally quietly. He understood what she meant; he had simply thought the training in the class would not rise to any level she would feel violated her position.

"Thank you for your consideration. If you ever want me to leave the class or do an alternate exercise, I will." A brief smile. "I never wish to make you uncomfortable."

"Nothing covered should require such," she told him honestly, "and you would have to try quite a bit harder to ever make me uncomfortable, Mister Priest. If anyone should know that here, I would think it would be you."

"Professor," she said with a faint smile, "at least, while in this class."

"Professor, then," she smiled back.

Savannah Levine

Savannah approached Abby Irene after class. "I hear that there is a TA position open."

Jack wasn't flirting with her; she was, after all, an instructor, and two and a half times his age or more. But there was certainly a teasing quality in his voice when he glanced up at her that might be mistaken for such if she didn't know better.

"I do know it, and I would never try," he said, and, hitting her unfamiliar title the tiniest bit hard, "Professor Garrett."

"Savannah Levine. I'm a witch and this coming year is going to be my senior year." She paused. "And I'm of the belief that you can never have enough training and learning when it comes to magic."
