Movie Appreciation: Week 14, Period 3 (Fri. 4/17)

"So," Ronon started as soon as it was time - they had a movie to get through, after all. "Next week's your final exam. We've gone over a lot of movies this semester and this last one's the most important because it's gonna form the basis for your test." Yes, he said test.

"Today we're gonna look at an award winning movie, From Justin to Kelly. It covers a few different genres - it's a musical, comedy, drama, teen romance, whatever. You guys should identify with it or somethin'." How sad would that be?

"Your task today is to decide what genre you think the movie fits and prepare to take a written final on it next week." He paused, making sure they were still with him here. "Any questions?"

"Does it include sleeping pills?" Peter asked.

Dinah peered into it as if they might magically appear. You never knew!

"Sadly, no." She stared at the screen, and said, "It's colorful?" Which was all she had, really. "I can't believe this is really the Final he'll use."

"I absolutely believe he could be that sadistic," Peter said.

"Put like that..." Dinah made a face, and threw popcorn in the air, catching only one kernel in her mouth. "I was hoping for a volcano, though. Or at least a car chase."

"We could imagine one," Peter suggested. "Not that it's the same..."

"No," Dinah said, mournful. "But! This would be a much better movie, if a hurricane were about to hit this beach, and wipe out half the cast. Or all of them." She tilted her head. "Would it even be better if we muted it and gave it new dialogue? And music?"

"It would be better if we put in another film," Peter said. "But your ideas could work if we're not allowed to do that."

Dinah grinned, wasted some popcorn at the screen, then ate another handful. "Maybe that's what he'll put on the Final. 'For this genre of movie, what would make it watchable? You are not allowed to add space aliens.'" She shook her head. "Are you going home at the end of the semester?"

"I hope not," Peter said. "I'd like to hang around for the summer if I can."

"Cooool." Dinah smiled at him, watching the movie for a couple seconds, but her eyes rebelled and her gaze wandered. "We never did go flying, yet." She bit her lip. "I mean, if you still wanted to do that, sometime?"

"Absolutely," Peter said. "We could go anytime now that the weather's nice."

"Yay!" Dinah beamed at him, thrilled. "Awesome. Whenever you're free, honestly. Assuming nothing crazy happens soon. Is it always so... busy, like it has been the last couple weeks? Just getting more and more hyper?"

"Seems like it ramps up towards the end of the semester," Peter said. "Especially when graduation comes around."

"The Island saying good-bye to the seniors?" Dinah wondered. "So summers are less spastic? That might be nice. I'm thinking of staying, but I have to talk it over with my family."

"They're more laid-back," Peter said. "Of course now that I've said that I've probably jinxed it."

Dinah remembered her conversation with Tony the day before, and grinned. "If a Danny-Bonaduce-mecha shows up, it's Tony's fault, though."

"We had a risk of that?" Peter asked.

"Tony mentioned a partridge in a pear tree, and it snowballed from there. I'm half-convinced if you say something, this place will make it come true."

She thought about that, then said aloud, "Gosh, I'd hate to grow another inch and possibly become a genius fencer really soon!"

"But why would you - ohhhhh," Peter said, as he belatedly got it.

Dinah waited hopefully, then sighed. "No, of course not. I think the Island only likes to do things that are guaranteed to embarrass or scare the life out of you if they come true, you know?"

Peter thought back to what happened to him during the zombie attack and couldn't help but agree. "I suppose at least we can say we live somewhere with a sense of humor?"

"Welcome to Goofy Island. Check your dignity at the door."

"They should put that on the brochure," Peter said.
