Blank Page Art Club, April 13 (Monday, After Classes)

Katchoo looked like she wasn't hung over, but really, really wanted to be.

"'kay," she said over the racket that was Clocky screeching while Morgana roared and chased it, "today really isn't the day for stuff that involves, y'know, X-Acto knives and things and geez, Morgana, keep it down for a minute, will ya?"

She sighed and gestured at the tables. "Sculpey and Play-Doh over there, crayons and the cheesy kind of watercolors there, tempera paint if you really wanna get messy but I'm not cleaning it up for you, got it?"

That said, she got up and headed into the corner to try and wrangle Morgana, who'd gotten hold of an 18-inch ruler and was brandishing it at Clocky. "Stop! I COMMAND you to COME BACK HERE!" Morgana was yelling while Clocky hid behind a cabinet.

". . . yeah," Katchoo said. "Have fun, people."

Risk being productive when there are kids about? Wow. Go you.

Claire got Talia settled with the paints before she looked up. "Please tell me everything is ready for Art Crawl" -- tiny fistpump -- "Wednesday and Thursday."

"Art Crawl!" Clarence called out from across the room, pumping his fist.

"I talked to Chad," Angela said. "He's up for doing some DJ-ing for it."

"Chad's awesome," Claire decided. "Thanks, Ang."

"ART CRAWL!" Morgana stopped to bellow from the other side of the room, complete with emphatic fistpump and heroic posture.

Katchoo sighed and watched Morgana chase Clocky across the room. "It's been a really stupid last couple of weeks and zombies and gremlins screwed everything up for me, but I oughta have stuff ready tonight."

"Don't worry if you don't get stuff done until tomorrow," Claire told her. "Your kid looks, um" -- like a nightmare -- "energetic."

Paul and Talia, at least, were relatively laid back; Claire congratulated herself for that mentally just a bit.

"Mph," was Katchoo's response to that; a nightmare was right. "Maybe I can pawn her off on --" oh god -- "Arthur again and get crap taken care of."

Claire's eyes went wide. "... Arthur?"

The girl who had a kid with her hermaphrodite boyfriend and one with her brother's partner felt qualified to comment on this, yes.

"The island," Katchoo said through her teeth, very deliberately, "frikkin' hates me."

"It's high," Claire said, sucking in her breath sympathetically. "Cal can't even have kids, but somehow we got one."

Katchoo eyed Morgana. "I must've been high, considering I never even frikkin' met him until Saturday and, you know, he's a guy," she griped. "All of this is completely impossible."

She glanced around and spotted Paul; the hair was a giveaway. "Heh. That one's yours?"

"It's freaksome." But Claire smiled just a little, anyhow. She liked that at least one of her impossible kids looked like her. "That's Paul. He's ... not that bad."

It was clear, here, that Claire was grading on a curve.

"The girl painting on the other side of the table is mine with my brother's partner. I did some rent-a-womb deal for them." She crossed her arms protectively over her midsection at that thought; whatever made Claire decide to have Talia, it hadn't happened yet.

"You put it like that, it doesn't sound so appealing," Katchoo observed, and winced as Morgana cornered Clocky and started to kick it. "She's a cute kid, though."

As far as grading on a curve went, the fact that she hadn't outright complained about Morgana yet was kind of amazing.

"She is," Claire had to agree. "And eerily well-behaved. Way more theirs then mine." Talia was even neatly rinsing off and lining up the paintbrushes as she finished.

Her aunt/mother shrugged a little. "I love my brother and everything, it's just kind of a random idea to loan out my reproductive system like that."

Clocky managed to escape with a taunting squeal of protest, which only sent Morgana scampering after it full tilt again.

"Be different if you could detach the damn thing and loan it out, huh?" Katchoo asked dryly. "That might be even weirder than Morgana over there, and she's inexplicable enough."

"If I could detatch it and loan it out, I'd have, like, 50 kids 'cause I'd never want it back," Claire bitched mildly. She was picturing David hugely pregnant.

With twins.

"But yeah, at least I already knew my kids' dads." She watched the girl chase the clock again. "Morgana, huh?"

"Yep." Katchoo snorted with barely disguised amusement. "From what she says, I insisted on naming her that just to piss off her dad . . . god, that never gets less messed up to say."

"So you guys aren't, like, together where she's from," Claire said curiously.

"I haven't asked." Katchoo looked utterly revolted by the idea, at any rate. "Though I do gather there's a hell of a lot of arguing, at least."

"I don't want to ask too much," Claire said, snorting to show her complete lack of surprise at the arguing. "Like if I ask too much, I'll jinx the future, or something."

"Y'know, you put it that way, maybe I should ask," Katchoo mused. She actually looked kind of proud of the arguing. "And make sure it never happens . . ."

"You could just make sure you're never alone with her dad," Claire suggested.
