Library, Sunday

Lee didn't know if it was necessarily a good idea to bring two kids to the library. Well, really, he didn't know if it was a good idea to bring Zak to the library. He figured it'd be paradise for Anna. And, as predicted, as soon as they got into the library, Zak was off like a shot, running up and down the aisles and screaming like an insane person.

Anna, however, found a stack of books, picked one and took seat before she started to read. Why couldn't all his kids be quiet like that?

So, thinking Anna would be fine on her own, Lee proceeded to try chasing Zak up and down the aisles. Zak thought it was a game. Lee was just trying to catch him before he knocked shelves down and or hurt himself.

It was not going well.

Anna was reading quietly at the front desk. Lee was off chasing his son through the periodical section.

Ah, fatherhood.

It was lunch time! That meant grilled cheese sandwiches and potato chips. Anna ate quietly. Zak flicked his at Lee.

Anna was back to reading although she was sitting behind the desk now. Zak was off in the nonfiction section, hiding from Lee.

"I'm not trying to find you, I'm trying to get you to calm down," he said, coming around a corner and coming up empty. Damn kid was good at hiding.

"Does your mother call me that?" Lee asked, peering around a corner and spotting the back of the boy.

"Momma calls you lotsa things," Zak said, not hearing Lee sneaking up behind him. "She says you earn 'em."

"Of course she does," Lee said, swooping in behind Zak and scooping him up. "And now, you're the sucker!"

"No, you're mine now," Lee said, stomping and growling dramatically through the aisles. "Daddy has you!"

"Daddy is a monster!" Zak yelled, shaking and laughing as Lee carried him. "He's gonna eat me!"

"That's right because Daddy is starving," he said, making more growling noises and tickling Zak's stomach.
