Care for Magical Creatures; Friday, Period 2 [ 04/10 ].

The students would find a sign on the classroom that requested that they relocate to the Danger Shop, and, once there, they would find the usual Sword Coast terrain that Minsc typically set up. Once the small crowd had gathered, he did a quick head count, nodded, and began.

"Now," he said, "I'm sure you're all sick of transforming stuff as of late. First, transforming into zombies and then transformation of the mind. We haven't talked much of those. Transformations of the mind, ones that mess with your head not in a way that just makes you feel confused or befuddled or motionless, but ones that make you really think you're someone else. The most common for of that here, of course, is gremlin bites, and we can't exactly do anything to prevent them at the moment because they are only taking up on what we owe them, although, really, they certainly didn't show any modesty in collecting, now, did they?"

"Either way, that's probably already more that what you'd like to hear about transformations today! We probably want to forget about them for a while. So today, we'll have a nice therapy day."

And, of course, therapy day to Minsc meant...

"Fighting!" A small collection of moddable weapons and armour showed up on the scene and now, little things could be seen moving through the trees behind them. "We shall let out our frustration with these....demons..." Funny, those 'demons' looked an awful lot like gremlins. But, of course, they weren't! It wouldn't be right by the treaty to fight gremlins. Demons, however, as similar they looked to gremlins...

Minsc cleared his throat. "Yes, demons here, need to be vanquished! Take up a sword and vanquish to your heart's content! I will join you in the theraputic fighting!"

"And, for those of you who do not find fighting to be cathartic today, Boo will take you to the other side of the Shop, where there are cute cuddly moddable animals to play with and care for instead. They'll need feeding and playing with!"

"And, finally, extra credit to anyone who wishes to tell about their experience either as a zombie or fighting them!"

[[ OCD on the way is up! ]]

"They make a real satisfyin' sound when they're airborne," Reno noted. And then he demonstrated, dropping the squirming thing and punting it a fairly impressive distance through the trees.

The "Whaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah!" of the gremlin as it sailed into the distance was pretty satisfying.

"I can grab another one, just say the word."

Arthur chewed on the inside of his mouth, giving the whole affair some thought. Honestly, the whole situation with Merlin, and the zombies, and the magic-- Reno included-- left him with precious little outlet lately.

"Then the word is said," he decided, and got up.

He was a hunter. Killing and/or maiming things was how he dealt with his problems.

And that, that right there, was a crow of victory as Reno turned tail and ran to grab at another one. He could fun faster giddy than the gremlins could scared, and he was back in no time with another squirming creature.

"That's the spirit, man," he said, waving the 'demon' about before presenting it to Arthur. "Let's see if you can kick a field goal, yo!"

Re: Talk to the TAs -- 04/10.

[personal profile] bitchprince 2009-04-10 04:11 pm (UTC)(link)
"I'm not even going to pretend to know what a field goal is," Arthur said, soberly. The fingers of his left (unrestrained) hand came up to grab the 'demon' firmly in the scruff of its neck.

It struggled, but Arthur didn't give it the time to continue as he kicked it and sent it flying firmly (and high) between the trees. His mouth twisted into a smirk. He was still good, at least. "Look at that." Ha!

With all of that magic going around, a man could almost come to feel weak.

"Daaamn, man. You kick like a chocobo, yo."

There were no mules on Reno's world, as there were no horses. But this was intended to be a compliment, anyhow. Reno had been kicked by a chocobo.

"Want another one?"
bitchprince: (...que?)

[personal profile] bitchprince 2009-04-10 04:18 pm (UTC)(link)
Arthur would just take that compliment, confusing as it was, in the spirit in which it was given.

Or, you know, he was going to turn to Reno and say, "Now what's a chocobo?" roughly in the same breath as, "Yes."

"Know that big bird I turned into for the class assignment?"

A particularly stupid little green thing wandered on by, and Reno zipped away to nab it and was back with it entirely too quickly.

"That's the closest thing to a horse my world's got, zoto."
bitchprince: (um okay then)

Re: Talk to the TAs -- 04/10.

[personal profile] bitchprince 2009-04-10 04:25 pm (UTC)(link)
Reno really was frighteningly quick. "You ride big birds?" Arthur asked, barely avoided pulling a face, and added, "Well, I suppose at least it's not worms."

[personal profile] raspberryturk 2009-04-10 04:27 pm (UTC)(link)
"Right, Leto rides the worms, don't he?" Reno did pull a face as he passed the gremlin over to Arthur. "Where I'm from, we just kill them things. They kinda like tryin' to eat people, yo. That shit ain't natural anyhow."
bitchprince: (prince pouty pants)

[personal profile] bitchprince 2009-04-10 04:31 pm (UTC)(link)
"Giant worms eating people?" Arthur asked, took the gremlin, and punted it through the trees with a satisfying thwock - it had been such a long, very long week, month, couple of months since he got here. All of his friends were sorcerers. If his father ever found out about Merlin, it would most likely lead to civil war or something if Arthur didn't manage to calm him down (which was likely). Nothing wrong here. "No, that's perfectly natural. You've seen what Leto's like if he gets left to his devices for long enough."

"Beatin' his head on countertops in bars? Yeah, I noticed," Reno squinted as he watched another gremlin take off, and then he snagged another one without asking if Arthur wanted one. With the way things had been going all over the place, lately, he was pretty certain he didn't have to ask. "He always like that?"

Re: Talk to the TAs -- 04/10.

[personal profile] bitchprince 2009-04-10 04:39 pm (UTC)(link)
And this one was for all the time he'd spent working very hard not to admit he was slowly starting to go mad around here for all the things people expected of him.

It flew... far.

Arthur took a moment to pause, stand still, and admire his handiwork, rubbing his hands. "Frequently," he said, "And I've known few men as fond of the sound of their own voice for no good reason. Take one for yourself, next."

"Guy sure knows his way around big words," Reno agreed, snagging another gremlin, grinning in its face, and letting it wriggle for a minute.

It was possible that he was just savoring the little thing's dread, actually. Never let it be said that Reno was anything but depraved when he wanted to be.

"You understand half of what comes outta his mouth?"

The gremlin struggled a little more, and then whimpered pathetically.

Re: Talk to the TAs -- 04/10.

[personal profile] bitchprince 2009-04-10 04:51 pm (UTC)(link)
"No matter what accusations he levels at me," Arthur said, focusing his attention on the tree to see how far Reno might kick the little thing, "I'm not in fact stupid."

Maybe a bit harsh, that statement. "I like the guy, but he's got his head up in the clouds more often than what's useful."

Arthur was, as Dinah once put it, the star quarterback of this outfit.
raspberryturk: (Hmm.)

Re: Talk to the TAs -- 04/10.

[personal profile] raspberryturk 2009-04-10 04:56 pm (UTC)(link)
Reno took the kick with a bit of a running start, and, while the gremlin didn't sail gracefully between the trees... It was pretty satisfying to watch it smack face-first into one of them.

Well, Reno laughed, anyhow.

"At the bar this week was the first time I saw him outta his head like that," he noted, looking around for another gremlin. "Or way to far in it. Kinda couldn't tell, really."

Re: Talk to the TAs -- 04/10.

[personal profile] bitchprince 2009-04-10 04:58 pm (UTC)(link)
It had reminded Arthur of Morgana, when her 'bad dreams' struck. And that had made him both concerned and uncomfortable. "He has his moments," he said, vaguely.

Rather than continue on the subject, he considered Reno's shot with a critical eye. "Your aim's rotten."

Re: Talk to the TAs -- 04/10.

[personal profile] raspberryturk 2009-04-10 04:59 pm (UTC)(link)
Reno grinned sidelong at Arthur.

"Who says I wasn't aimin' for the tree?"

He hadn't been. But it had been happy coincidence, and so Reno was totally going to err to 'I meant to do that.'

Re: Talk to the TAs -- 04/10.

[personal profile] bitchprince 2009-04-10 05:06 pm (UTC)(link)
"I do," Arthur said, imperiously, and actually made a good bid at snagging a 'demon' that had erred towards his feet. "But if you insist, let's see you hit the tree again."

Time with Reno was so much like spending time with his knights - despite Reno's lack of the prerequisite ideals of valor and honour - that at the moment, it seemed the most frightfully normal thing he'd gotten to experience since Merlin made even his most normal connection here into something strange-- er.

Reno raised an eyebrow, and then shrugged, reaching for the critter.

"I'll be happy to, yoto."

Reno sized up the 'demon' for a moment, and then took a step back to inspect his target. Ghanima hadn't been training him for the past several months for nothing, really, so he was more or less confident that he could pull this off.

More or less.

Deep breath, and then the creature was airborne, sailing toward the tree.

And glancing off of it by a shoulder.

Reno squinted. "Close enough?"

Re: Talk to the TAs -- 04/10.

[personal profile] bitchprince 2009-04-10 05:23 pm (UTC)(link)
"Hardly," Arthur informed him, with a little twist of a smirk set to his face. Skimming the edge of predatory at that.

Apparently it took kicking gremlins to make a man feel halfway normal.

His next went sailing far into the treetops. That one was for trying his best-- and still failing. "Close enough never won any battles."

Reno smirked as he watched the gremlin sail away.

"Am I gettin' a lecture, here? Seriously?"

Reno didn't really seem to mind. If anything, it was like Arthur was grooming him to go back to Tseng and his lectures, somehow. "You want I should keep tryin' until I nail it, now?"

Re: Talk to the TAs -- 04/10.

[personal profile] bitchprince 2009-04-10 05:32 pm (UTC)(link)
"Yes," Arthur said, without shame, "You are." Flipside of the knight thing: lectures, and getting the word 'dung beetle' flung at your head from time to time. "Let's see if you do better on the next two," he said, idly, and turned to see if he could find any others.

"Hey, fair enough. I don't want nobody thinkin' I'm gettin' rusty when I head back home, yo."

Rusty kind of got people killed. Reno didn't want to think that he was getting rusty, either.

He snagged another gremlin that had wandered a little too close, and sized up the tree again. One step back, two steps forward, a decent punt, and-

"Bullseye!"

Reno was now sticking out his tongue and humming a victory theme of some sort.

Re: Talk to the TAs -- 04/10.

[personal profile] bitchprince 2009-04-10 05:41 pm (UTC)(link)
And that was exactly why Arthur took that moment to send a gremlin soaring at Reno's back (with the help of his one functional arm), mostly to see if his reaction time still held up if he was surprised.

Yep.

He was just helping Reno make sure he wouldn't be rusty.

Some part of him wondered if he really was going completely out of his mind.

"Gah!" Reno didn't have eyes in the back of his head, but he had a killer swing with his arm, and that was why the poor gremlin barely had enough time to cling to Reno's ponytail for dear life before he was met with an elbow that knocked half the teeth out of his wee little skull.

Which left Reno standing there with a toothless green thing hanging from his hair.

"That was... different, yo."
