Library [Saturday]

Mac actually ran over to the library this week, still with her mop handle securely in hand, just in case she ran into any of the risen dead.

After listening to radio and the information they'd come across the day before, Mac was more convinced than ever that they were dealing with a curse, and tacked up a large piece of paper with a few key words, 'voodoo', 'curse', 'priest', where it could be seen, so that everyone knew what they should be focussing on, here. Anything else they found could be added as they went along.

It couldn't be said she wasn't trying to organise their efforts.

"Since...." He glanced toward the book he'd been scanning through, "before this was written. It's about the island's only voodoo priest, or something. Not much, but it does mention that he had some connection with gremlins." Cal shrugged, shifting the book around and shoving it Mac's way in case she wanted to see for herself.

"It's more than anyone else seems to have come up with," Mac remarked, standing to peer over at the books.

Cal gave the faintest of unconvinced smiles. "Maybe," he said. "I'm not even sure if they've really got anything to do with each other. What, now zombies have a little bit more in common with gremlins other than biting people and changing them?"

Mac huffed a short laugh. "Never thought I'd actually say this, but at this point, I would rather have a gremlin bite, than this."

"Yeaaaaaaaah," Cal agreed, making a face as he lifted his hands for scales to balance his points. "A few hours of utter humiliation, or a possible eternity as a walking corpse...." He sucked in a breath through his teeth. "Tough call."

Mac quirked a bit of a smile. "Really."

She paused, as she considered all this. "So, what... this means we should be telling people to hunt down gremlins?"

"I...don't know," Cal said, frowning. "It just said he was connected to them, it doesn't say anything really about how. Maybe he, like...created them, or something? But then what does that have to do with zombies? Or figuring out how to get him to help us....if he's still alive. I mean, maybe the gremlins killed him in an uprising against their master."

"Well, there's a disturbing thought," Mac said after a moment to consider that.

"It might be better if we work on the assumption the guy is alive," she mused. "Since we kinda need him."

Cal had a lot of disturbing thoughts.

"Hey, even if he is dead, we've already got walking undead, maybe we could still get use out of him that way, too."

Case in point.

He really shouldn't be allowed to help with this, really.

"... As extra walking undead?"

Mac was just a little bit skeptical about that part of this plan.

"Why not?" Cal shrugged. "Fight fire with fire. When in Rome. All that sort of thing."

"At the very least, send him out to get eaten before us..." Mac tried.

"And this is why we shouldn't create hordes of bitey things," Mac said wisely.

Cal nodded in sage agreement.

"Fandom After School Specials, Volume Seventeen."

Mac snickered. "That should go in the handbook."

This school had to have an orientation handbook somewhere, and if it didn't, that was just wrong.

Cal grinned a little. "Can you imagine," he said, "how thick that handbook could get?"

"I bet it exists in here somewhere," she decided, glancing towards the stacks. "If we have books on zombies and voodoo, there has to be a school survival guide somewhere."

"That's true," Cal agreed. "This library seems to have everything..."

"I've been working here, like, two years, and I'm still surprised by the things I find sometimes."

"Liiiiiike?" Cal asked, grinning, because if that didn't sound like a set-up to some good stories, he didn't know what was.

So long as it wasn't...you know. One of those books that were actually about him. Because they had those here, too.

"There's a book about exploding sheep, somewhere," she shared.

That was actually pretty normal, compared to some things.

"...Seriously?" Cal asked, unable to help a small chuckled.

Well, he knew what he was doing Monday.

"Seriously," Mac confirmed, nodding at that.

"And not as dry and voodoo theory." Not that it was particularly tough to beat.

"I wonder if that's the key to getting rid of these guys," Cal offered. "Or at least exploding teal deer."

"I think the teal deer are endangered," Mac said carefully. "Maybe go for exploding gremlins instead."

There was a pause.

Followed by a nod. "That works. There's too much of them around and maybe that's actually how the gremlin thing ties this all together. Gremlin explosions are lethal to zombies."
