Library [Saturday]

Mac actually ran over to the library this week, still with her mop handle securely in hand, just in case she ran into any of the risen dead.

After listening to radio and the information they'd come across the day before, Mac was more convinced than ever that they were dealing with a curse, and tacked up a large piece of paper with a few key words, 'voodoo', 'curse', 'priest', where it could be seen, so that everyone knew what they should be focussing on, here. Anything else they found could be added as they went along.

It couldn't be said she wasn't trying to organise their efforts.

"That's what it says on the board," Agnes confirmed. "I'm... guessing someone found something and decided voodoo had to be it?" She shrugged. "I haven't found much helpful yet, though. Have you?"

Sookie bit her lip, nodding as she flipped pages and found the one she'd wanted. "I mean, I'm not real sure. But this does sound kinda important, you know?" She cleared her throat. "'A Voodoo curse of this caliber can only be lifted by another voodoo practitioner of equal power.' But I don't know where we'd get someone who practices voodoo around here."

"Around here?" Agnes asked. "What DON'T we have around here? ...No, I suppose if there were some voodoo woman just hanging around town, she'd have already dealt with it."

She looked around at the books. "Okay. So, either we FIND a voodoo practitioner, or someone's going to have to learn a lifetime of magic VERY quickly. I don't suppose there's a directory of voodoo people around here? Or a membership list for a voodoo club?"

"That'd be handy," Sookie said with a wry little smile. "Voodoo support group and phone tree, maybe?"

Okay, yes, that was a joke, but damn it they kind of needed jokes right now.

"If only it were that simple," Agnes agreed, with a grin. "If only we had some sort of list of people who knew anything about voodoo..."

She looked down at the pile of books. And then started scrambling at them. "Authors!" she announced. "Help me out -- look for any books that were written in the past hundred years or so! ...No, if there's voodoo involved, better make that two or three hundred. Someone who's from around here! Are there swamps on the island?"

"Not that I've seen," Sookie admitted. "I mean, I'm not totally unfamiliar with voodoo -- I'm from Louisiana, myself." She plucked up a couple books, flipping through to the index of one. "This one seems just like a lot of...recipes. Ick."

[identity profile] finding-x-dream.livejournal.com 2009-04-04 11:05 pm (UTC)(link)
"I'm not familiar with Louisiana," Agnes told her. "But I've heard stories from Genua... I'm Agnes, by the way. A pleasure working with you."

She dug through the books some more... "A-HA! This one wasn't written too long ago, and the author lived right here on Fandom. If he's anything like the witches back home, he wouldn't have gone far from home -- but I don't recall ever hearing anything about him..."

Wow, it's almost like you're being USEFUL. Almost saving the day, even. THAT'S a change.

"Where are the Fandom historical archives? If he lived here, there should be some record, right?"

[identity profile] justwantsquiet.livejournal.com 2009-04-04 11:08 pm (UTC)(link)
Sookie resisted the urge to peek a little at Agnes' mind, because she was now really curious about where she might be from. "I'm Sookie. Nice to meet you. And I'd guess the archives...um. Are back that way?" she guessed, pointing towards an area of shelves that looked promising.

Oh, Agnes's mind was a fun place to visit. It was pretty... odd in there. Not quite crowded, not technically, but... different.

"I think you're quite right," Agnes told her, taking off for the shelves. She looked through the books as fast as she could. "Not that one... No, not that one... HERE!" She flipped through the pages quickly, eagerly... "Oh, POOT!!!"

She tossed the book onto the floor. "Darn stupid ratzing fratzing... BOLLOCKS BOLLOCKS BUGGER FUCK FUCK FUCK!!!"

The shelves around her started vibrating from the harmonics of her voice, and she clapped her hands over her mouth and took a few moments to pull herself together. Then she smiled sweetly at Sookie. "I'm sorry. Unfortunately, it seems he packed up his things and disappeared. The mayor at the time doesn't think he actually left the island, but he hasn't been seen or heard from since."

She wasn't crying. She wasn't.

Sookie's eyes were as big as saucers. "Oh my god, honey, are you all right? We'll just keep looking, okay?"

[identity profile] finding-x-dream.livejournal.com 2009-04-04 11:59 pm (UTC)(link)
"No, I'm fine," Agnes sighed. "Just... I thought we were so close. More research, it is."
