Flight Club [Flight Shed]

There were, of course, snacks and drinks set up for the members of the club today. Gavin would never fall down on that duty even if today's club was going to be a little...sillier than previous meetings.

"Hey guys, welcome back," he said, nodding at them all. "Today, we're going to be doing something a little different. Usually, we get into the flight sim, do some scenarios and that's that. We're not going to be in the flight sim today. Nope, today, we're going to be making paper airplanes."

Yes, that's right. There were reams of paper on the table next to the snacks and drinks.

"You guys might be the best pilots in the galaxy but I bet you never think about things like this, how to make a ship aerodynamic, what to fold, bend, and tear to make sure your plan flies the fastest and furthest. Sure, they're just paper but you never know when something might apply to real world flying."

Yes, paper airplanes.

"Go to it!"

"I can do that," he said, totally not caring about paper airplanes now. "I haven't been flying as long as other versions of me have been but I think I can handle myself pretty well despite what some other people would say."

Skywalkers. Pfft.

"They're lying liars."

"You've logged more hours than I have," Tahiri pointed out. She wasn't counting things that involved cognition hoods. She wouldn't wish that on him anyway. "I asked Jaina, too, but she's kind of busy, and I need a lot of practice."

Because last she'd heard, they wanted more Jedi in charge of fighter squadrons, and apparently somebody in the Fleet had been crazy enough to bring her name up. And um, as things stood at the moment, that was just insane.

"I can help you, no problem," Gavin said, nodding. "I was just teasing you. I'm used to Luke or Ben giving me a hard time because they're bot dorks. But, yeah, I'm always happy to help. Whenever you need it. Whatever I can do."

"They would," Tahiri said, and laughed. "And that would be great. I'm just not comfortable in there yet. Which might have a few things to do with barely being able to reach the foot yokes."

She was kind of braced for an Ewok joke.

"We'll have just to get you some really chunky boots," Gavin said and then added, "or some engineering advice from an Ewok."

Look, aw, Gavin provided even if the joke wasn't THAT good.

Tahiri groaned, but she had been expecting it. "Not you too," she half protested. "And I have the boots, I just hate them and it makes me twitchy."

"I couldn't help it, it was right there for the taking," Gavin said and laughed. "Shouldn't leave openings like that. Maybe we can see about doing something with the seat. Can't hurt to try and rig it up."

"Just what I always wanted, my very own custom cockpit." Tahiri sighed, melodramatically. "Or I could just suck it up and learn to deal with the shoes." Yes, she said 'shoes' like most people would say 'poodoo.'

"Or maybe you'll grow," Gavin suggested. "Get someone to pull your arms and another to pull your legs and stretch you out."

Kidding, kidding.

"You --" Tahiri started to sputter, but she couldn't even feign indignation for more than a second or two before she started laughing.

"It might work!" he said, joining her in the laughing. "Look, you never know. I could be a genius!"

"Sometimes it helps being this size, you know," Tahiri retorted good-naturedly.

Just . . . not so much in an X-Wing.

"Like when you need to reach something on a the very bottom shelf?"

It was her fault for giving him openings.

"Yes. I mean --" Tahiri flung both hands up in a halfway exasperated gesture and glared at him, but she was still laughing. "Gah!"

"Now, I know who to ask," he said between peals of laughter. "Good to know!"

"See if I help you now," Tahiri threatened -- like anyone would take that threat seriously.

"But but but, that might mean I'd have to bend down and get it myself!"

What a terrible thing as evidenced by Gavin's gasp of horror.

"I could hurt my back!"

Tahiri snorted and raised an eyebrow at him. "Oh, and it's my duty as a Jedi to make sure that doesn't happen, now, is it?"

"Yes." Hey, she'd offered it, he was taking it. "Yes, it is. Completely your duty."

"See," Tahiri said, "I would have been nice and offered just as a gesture of Tatooine solidarity, but then you had to pull out the short jokes . . ."

You know, the short jokes that she'd given him the opening for.

"I think, if I'd ignored making those jokes, I would have lost my guy card," he decided. "Fact of the species."

"Guys and X-Wing jocks," Tahiri said with an exaggerated eyeroll. "And since you're both I'm doomed."

"Especially since I take both so seriously," he added. "Yeah, you are doomed."

"You are so lucky I don't wear shoes," Tahiri informed him.

Not like she hadn't learned to make kicks really count for something anyway, but please. Like she'd ever live it down if she ended up kicking him.

"Because then you'd be half an inch taller!" Look, that was another opening. It was his job to take it.
