"One of the most important parts of being a manager is choosing someone to be your flunky...er minion, I mean ASSISTANT. Yes. Assistant," Yzma said, pacing around the Danger Room.

"They do the parts of your job you don't want to: picking up dry cleaning, talking to people on the phone..." She clapped her hand and a movie screen scrolled out of nowhere. "There is a marvelous instructional video on how to be an effective manager called ~~meta for~~ The Devil Wears Prada. After we've watched the good parts, you will have an assignment!"

Thunder cackled ominously. "Won't that be wonderful?"

Edmund pulled the lever and, a few minutes later, arrived dripping wet and trying to shake an anemone out of his trouser leg.

Oh, thank goodness she'd gotten a squid-thing this week. Last week, getting the boring lever had been such a disappointment.

Okay, so the giant man-eating starfish had been a new one. Agnes arrived in class with hundreds of sucker-marks all over her face.

...Liir picked the wrong one today, and ended up doused. He also ended up with soft bruise on his arm, but hopefully no one would bother him about it.

There's even popcorn! And Lucky Charms. And little pots of chocolate gold, if you can eat candy any more.

Chatting is encouraged. Isn't the boss fabulous?

Toby loved this movie. Especially the part with all the fabulous scarves!

Romeo took some popcorn and watched the movie. Something about the girl in it seemed oddly familiar.

Wendy naturally started immediately throwing popcorn at the screen.

She wasn't entirely sure about eating cereal that had to have come from the sky, but Hinata took a few of the chocolate coins and nibbled on them, while sneaking looks in Turtle-san's direction.

Mmmm, candy! Rikku kept frowning at the main character, like she was trying to remember someone's name. Huh.

The entire premise of the movie just made Agnes want to scream.

Fortunately for peoples' eardrums and the structural integrity of the building, she didn't.

...

The first half was rather familiar.

The second half was a lovely comedy.

"This week, you must get another student to perform some menial task for you," Yzma declared. "The more complicated and humiliating, the better, of course. Have them bring you coffee and declare it too cold! Make them do your laundry! Clip your toenails! Wash your underwear! And next week, we will talk about what you did!"

Thunder cackled again.

"You can't, of course, tell them it's for an assignment. Nor can you pay them to do it."

Arthur was not fully sure how this was any different from what he usually did anyway, so he sat back. Easy.

Doing menial tasks wasn't his job.

Edmund leaned back in his chair, pondering whether he could get Reno when he wasn't a meerkat to do something for him. Maybe something involving food.

Right, so Romeo was supposed to treat another student the way he'd treated his father's employees for the first 17 years of his life.

He could handle that. It might make him feel bad for a moment, but he could handle it.

Hinata... was probably going to fail this assignment, she thought a bit depressed at the thought.

Though.

Wait. It wasn't very menial, or humiliating but she supposed it might... pass.

Rikku was deep in thought.

Did offering someone sexual favors count as paying them? Or, conversely, threatening to withhold them?

It was less a question of ethics and more a question of whether that would hurt her grade.

Agnes blinked at Yzma thoughtfully. If she didn't complete the assignment, would Yzma find out? More importantly, would she CARE?

...Liir winced. He'd gotten out of this task with Professor Ghanima. But he had a feeling Professor Yzma wouldn't allow it.

Shit. Shit. Shit.

Toby sat back in his chair, ready to do Yzma's bidding.

How much do I love this movie? THIS MUCH.

I read the book and thought the main character was a whiny twat who should suck it up and do her damn job already, because it's haaaaaaard, sure, but that's why Not!Anna Wintour pays you the big bucks and gives you a golden ticket on your way out. (And that Not!Anna Wintour was fabulous and also, you know, crazy-busy, and that she said right out at the beginning she was gonna be an insanely demanding boss, so ... what did she expect?)

This possibly makes me evil.
