Ethics [Tuesday, March 17, Second period]

Anakin stalked into the room and shut the door firmly behind him. His spin would have been much more impressive if a small shower of Lucky Charms hadn't fallen from his hood.

"Today we talk about wrath," he said. "There's something very human about giving in to our temper," he said. "It's freeing, uncomplicated."

He paused. "At least at that moment. The repercussions are always waiting."

He waved a hand and the holoprojector flipped to life. Frozen in time was a young Jedi with two lightsabers at the neck of an older, clearly defeated enemy. The students might remember the scenario from a few weeks ago.

"This was me," he said, pointing at the young man. "And that older man was evil and threatened my family. It didn't make the choice I made--to kill him while he knelt there--any less wrong."

He looked around the classroom making eye contact with every student before continuing. "Wrath is very, very tempting. It urges you to listen to that dark little voice inside of you--to cut loose, live without consequences."

He pointed at the holo again. "There are always consequences. This moment has stayed with me, made me the person I am. It wasn't a positive influence."

Anakin stopped pacing. "What would it take for you to get to that hazy edge? And more importantly, how do you stop yourself from giving in?"

Hurley felt a little uncomfortable.

Okay, a lot uncomfortable.

Joan wasn't surprised but she wasn't sure what she thought.

Zayne would have been a little disappointed in Master Skywalker, but it was in the past. Clearly Anakin had made amends, otherwise he wouldn't be here.

That said, he was still surprised.

Peter had already known this story, but he listened carefully to see if he could get more insights as to how Anakin felt about it.

Ino was just going to totally pretend she understood why killing the evil guy was even a problem.

But she really wasn't seeing one there.

Leto listened. This lecture did not make much sense. What was the problem?

Listening, Van Helsing has the oddest feeling of knowing exactly what Anakin is talking about, but there's a big, blank, emptiness where he thinks a memory would go if there actually was one to remember which, there is, he just can't access it.

Hurley couldn't imagine himself ever doing that.

"I'd have to have gone crazy, I think," Hurley said. "Lost all sense of... like, everything."

It's a pity 'gone crazy' was actually in his future.

"I think it helps if you have someone else around to stop you," Tony said. "Make you back off until you cool down."

K-Mart knew this one already.

"The big thing that would get me to that edge... isn't going to happen because someone took care of it first," she said. "But... where I'm from, a major corporation is behind the whole post-apocalyptic thing. If I had the chance to kill the people responsible or even just further ruin them... yeah, that'd definitely get me to that edge."

It took a few minutes for Joan to answer. "I think that if my family was in trouble, that would push me to that edge."

"I think there would have to be a serious threat to the people I care about," Helen said. "And to stop myself... Well... if I were to do that perhaps I would have to see how doing whatever it was I planned would actually hurt those people more."

Zayne wasn't a talented Jedi. His skills in the Force were pegged at an early age as marginal. It was rare for him to get into a fight using his lightsaber without losing it temporarily.

But he really believed in the Jedi code and strove to live by it. That's why his answer was a completely honest and dumbfounded, "I have absolutely no idea."

The hypotheticals were not coming to his mind at all.

Ino shrugged.

"No idea. Haven't exactly been that angry before, so..."

Leto shook his head. "Why is this even an issue? Challenging an evil man who threatens your family is certainly right and just."

Marco fiddled with his pen, but otherwise seemed very cheerful. "Evil aliens taking over Earth. And I'd eat a cookie."

Zayne was here and wasn't at all wrathful today.

Only the normal level of wrath from Temari today!
