Mathematics: All Classes

I thought we'd get off on an easy start, so all I want you to do today is tell me your favorite number and why.

(ooc: Player did not like the effects of blood test/tetanus shot and will be curling up in bed with stuffed toy dog now.)

I like the number 4. I like it because of all the different ways you can write it. It looks cool and out of all of the numbers it's the most fun to write.

My favorite is 5. Because that's the goal of all my engine tinkering: making the ship go five factors beyond light speed.

I like the number 3 and the number 7. They are prime numbers and for some reason when I was a little girl, they just made me happy to write and to look at. *shrugs* Yeah its kinda stupid I know but I like them. They make me happy to look at for some reason.

[OOC: urge to say 69 = very great.]

I like the number 23. I don't know why, it just seems like a good number. Maybe because that seems like an ideal age to be too.

My favorite number? ::scratches her forehead::

I dunno... I kinda want to say 33, but then, why not 34 or 35?

::shrugs::

"The Hardy-Ramanujan number, for its unique properties but also I find the story behind it fascinating. When numbers become cultural touchstones it is noteworthy."

69. Not just because of things it stands for, but also because it just looks cool. See? The six is just like the nine, except upside down. That's awesome.

(OOC- Was going to say five, but Han got here first.)

"e," Kitty says. "Because it's got so many uses in physics."

Mine's four too, because contrary to popular belief things don't always happen in threes. Theyt happen in fours, you just don't always keep looking after the third.

Barbossa thought about it. "I suppose I be likin' the number 7, fer the Seven Seas and what-not. Even though I suppose thar be more than seven seas, now that I be ponderin' it."

Thomasina considers this for a while, listening to her classmates declare their love for e(which she has heard of) and the Hardy-Ramanujan number(which she hadn't - and that surprises her). Then she speaks.

I'm rather fond of i, myself, as it allows us to have a fundamental theorem of algebra.
