Into the Black Flight Club meeting (Tuesday evening)

Anakin and Padmé sat on the ramp of Padmé's ship. The smell of the pizza ordered for the Flight Club's first meeting wafted out and caused Anakin's stomach to rumble.

He practically vibrated with energy. Could be the possibility of flying again. Could be the excuse to spend more time with the Senator. Either way, he's in a fantastic mood.

Aeryn nods. "I can understand that. I've seen it with some of the conscripts," she explains. "It isn't exactly home, but it got you there."

Anakin wasn't about to correct her. "Something like that, yeah."

He changed the subject. "How long have you been flying, then?"

"Only two years," she says. It's seemed a lot longer than that. "They've been training me on a lot of different things, but now that I can finally get inside a Prowler, I'd love to stick to that if I can."

"No feeling in the galaxy like it, is there?" He looked around at the gathered crowd. "Next meeting, we're up in the air again. I promise."

Aeryn laughs, a little in relief. "If I told you I loved you, I'd actually mean it a little bit."

Anakin grinned. "I won't tell."

"Good," she smiles. "So this Jedi thing, is that some sort of military, or...?"

"More like diplomatic monks with superpowers, sort of." Anakin tried to come up with a way to describe the Order. "There isn't a Republic military--the planets mostly take care of their own defenses, and anything that comes up between them they send Jedi for. In pairs, mostly. Not like an army of any kind. But they do train us for combat because the Order realizes that words alone don't always solve all problems."

He looked at Aeryn. "How about you?"

"Well, I'm... It's a little like that, only no monks and no superpowers," she says. "There are too many planets for the Peacekeepers to handle everything, so they have their own little civil wars and we step in if we're needed, but mostly we're involved in bigger campaigns. The skirmishes that aren't civil in any sense of the word."

Anakin nodded. "Yeah, we don't get pulled in for little things. Someone's normally managed to ratchet the tensions up beyond the ridiculous before we get sent in."

"Exactly. And they can get ridiculous," she says, shaking her head. "If they didn't, they wouldn't need us."
