Newspaper Staff Meeting, 4 pm, Journalism Room

"Donuts," Rikku announced, thumping the box down on the table. "Ideas. If you have 'em. I dunno. I'm tired and I'm cranky. Whatever."

Rikku was not enjoying the week. Or the late-night fire drills. Or the cold freaking weather.

The donuts, though, those were pretty sweet.

"If it pushes me too far, I'm going to have to light the preserve on fire or something." No, he wouldn't. "That'd show it."

... Well, it would.

"For the most part, the straight-up weird always manages to miss me. It likes to toss the annoying in my face nice and often, though."

"I can deal with the straight up weird mostly because I know it'll go away but there are things that sneak up on you and then cling," Lee said. "Frakking week. Ready for a vacation."

"Ready for vacation," Warren agreed. "At least I'm done with my classes for a while, now. You?"

"Done for awhile," he said, grateful for that. "Going to see Adah this weekend and than on the cruise that better not get canceled or something. Frakking island could probably do that."

Warren nodded, considering.

"So. If we're all on the cruise, who's going to print up the paper?"

Warren hadn't been planning on going on the cruise initially, but then he found out a certain redhead with a bounce in her step was going, too. So.

"...squirrels?" Hey, they reported the news, they could probably write it too.

"... Suddenly, I hate squirrels a little less," Warren decided. "Furry, evil little rodents that they are."

"They can be helpful when they wanna be," he agreed. "And hey, a few of them made it to Mexico last Spring Break. Maybe they'll get there."

"If as many people are going on this vacation as I think there might be, there's not going to be a hell of a lot going on here for them to report on," he noted. "Squirrel infestation on the cruise ship. It's a good thing these guys practically live on alcohol."

"Maybe all the old adults will actually do something?" Lee said. "Drunk squirrels are almost funny to hear report the news when the news isn't wrong and about you."

"This is true," Warren noted. "It'll be interesting to hear what the teachers do in their spare time, I guess. When they're not trying to round us all up. And when their antics are being reported by squirrels on vacation."

"As long as they don't burn the dorms down or something," Lee decided. "I'd like to come home to my stuff. And I'm sure the teachers can get...out of hand if they're allowed some alcohol."

"I don't doubt it," Warren agreed. "Have you ever met Captain Hammer?"

Really, the name probably said it all.

"...no but that's quite a name," he said. "Is that real?"

"The hammer, or the name?"

Sometimes, around here, you had to ask.

"Both," Lee finally said. Might as well get both answers.

Hey, that was good enough for Warren.

"The guy's stuck-up enough that if he didn't grow up with that name, he'd probably go out and legally change his name to Captain Hammer," he reported. "But as for an actual hammer, I haven't seen anything of the sort, so I think it's mostly just him trying to make everyone think he's got a bigger dick than he really does."

"Ah, overcompensation," he said, nodding. "I had a teacher like that. It's kind of cute how they try to impress the students. Like they think the students care that much."

"I think there would be something very, very wrong if any of the students cared that much."

This was accompanied with a bit of a shudder, actually.

Lee joined Warren in that shudder.

"Hopefully the teachers that are coming on the cruise keep that...away from us."
