Newspaper Staff Meeting, 4 pm, Journalism Room

"Donuts," Rikku announced, thumping the box down on the table. "Ideas. If you have 'em. I dunno. I'm tired and I'm cranky. Whatever."

Rikku was not enjoying the week. Or the late-night fire drills. Or the cold freaking weather.

The donuts, though, those were pretty sweet.

"The frakking fire drill is getting a write up," Lee decided. "Frakking fire drill that needs to die."

Warren Peace

"Fire drill needs to be burned," Warren agreed. "Give it a reason to ring at two in the freaking morning."

"When there wasn't even a frakking fire," Lee groused. "This island frakking hates us all."

"The feeling is starting to be mutual," Warren decided. "I had two classes today. I should have stayed in the building. It isn't like fire bugs me."

Sure, being buried alive would have sucked. But maybe he'd be lucky and he'd be in some kind of sheltered pocket within the wreckage. Or something.

"Frak, I only had one but I frakking agree," Lee said and shook his head. "And I'm supposed to be going out of town this weekend. I need my frakking sleep. Stupid island."

"Stupid island," Warren agreed, crossing his arms over his chest and frowning. "Stupid ... frakking island."

Frak was a fun word. Who knew?

"We should set the paper on fire after we print it," Rikku decided. "Special commemorative ... burning. Fire. Stuff."

"Stupid frakking island," Lee agreed with a hint of a grin at Warren's use of the word. "And we're frakking stuck on it. Like its puppets."

"I am all for setting things on fire," Lee said with a firm nod. "Especially after this week."

"The little green army men on Fandom's driveway. And the frakking-" Best word ever. "-island is the sadistic kid with the magnifying glass. I'd ask if it could get any worse, but I already know it'll find a way if I do."

"This week can go right to hell," Rikku grumbled. "Except the rest of it is probably not ... uh. Something you can ... say in the paper, really. 'Cause."

... Well.

"It likes to frakking top itself," Lee said, glaring at the room at large. "The big kid who got frakking bullied so now he's going to bully us. I don't even want to think what's planned next. I can't even frakking imagine how much worse it could get."

"Cause," Lee agreed, having a feeling what she might mean. "Stress, frustration and a frakking fire drill do not a good week make. I'm ready to punch something."

"I want to set things on fire," Rikku announced. "But that wasn't me, last night, setting things on fire. I'd have the common decency not to do it somewhere that would mean everyone else would have to get out of bed for it."

"If it pushes me too far, I'm going to have to light the preserve on fire or something." No, he wouldn't. "That'd show it."

... Well, it would.

"For the most part, the straight-up weird always manages to miss me. It likes to toss the annoying in my face nice and often, though."

"I can deal with the straight up weird mostly because I know it'll go away but there are things that sneak up on you and then cling," Lee said. "Frakking week. Ready for a vacation."

Cal Stephanides

"I haven't gotten to the setting things on fire part mostly because I'd be he one who sets something on fire and loses control and then I'm frakking screwed," he said and shook his head.

"Ready for vacation," Warren agreed. "At least I'm done with my classes for a while, now. You?"

"Done for awhile," he said, grateful for that. "Going to see Adah this weekend and than on the cruise that better not get canceled or something. Frakking island could probably do that."

Warren nodded, considering.

"So. If we're all on the cruise, who's going to print up the paper?"

Warren hadn't been planning on going on the cruise initially, but then he found out a certain redhead with a bounce in her step was going, too. So.

"...squirrels?" Hey, they reported the news, they could probably write it too.

"... Suddenly, I hate squirrels a little less," Warren decided. "Furry, evil little rodents that they are."

"They can be helpful when they wanna be," he agreed. "And hey, a few of them made it to Mexico last Spring Break. Maybe they'll get there."

"If as many people are going on this vacation as I think there might be, there's not going to be a hell of a lot going on here for them to report on," he noted. "Squirrel infestation on the cruise ship. It's a good thing these guys practically live on alcohol."

"Maybe all the old adults will actually do something?" Lee said. "Drunk squirrels are almost funny to hear report the news when the news isn't wrong and about you."

"This is true," Warren noted. "It'll be interesting to hear what the teachers do in their spare time, I guess. When they're not trying to round us all up. And when their antics are being reported by squirrels on vacation."

"As long as they don't burn the dorms down or something," Lee decided. "I'd like to come home to my stuff. And I'm sure the teachers can get...out of hand if they're allowed some alcohol."

"I don't doubt it," Warren agreed. "Have you ever met Captain Hammer?"

Really, the name probably said it all.

"...no but that's quite a name," he said. "Is that real?"

Ghanima was here, if a bit distracted.

"The hammer, or the name?"

Sometimes, around here, you had to ask.

"Both," Lee finally said. Might as well get both answers.

Hey, that was good enough for Warren.

"The guy's stuck-up enough that if he didn't grow up with that name, he'd probably go out and legally change his name to Captain Hammer," he reported. "But as for an actual hammer, I haven't seen anything of the sort, so I think it's mostly just him trying to make everyone think he's got a bigger dick than he really does."

"Ah, overcompensation," he said, nodding. "I had a teacher like that. It's kind of cute how they try to impress the students. Like they think the students care that much."

"I think there would be something very, very wrong if any of the students cared that much."

This was accompanied with a bit of a shudder, actually.

Lee joined Warren in that shudder.

"Hopefully the teachers that are coming on the cruise keep that...away from us."

"I'm really close to not caring," Rikku admitted. "And then I tell myself I'm being stupid, since ... you know. There are worse things not to have. But I wanna smash things anyway."
