Ethics [Tuesday, February 17, 2nd period]

Today the class was meeting in the Danger Room. Not that there was any reason for Anakin to be in the mood to kill most of his student horribly. Really. This was what was on the syllabus.

...fortunately.

"Welcome to your midterm," Anakin said, pacing across the flight deck of a ship. Behind him, thousands of pricks of lights showed that a space battle had been paused for him to talk. "Today, you will get to be Jedi."

His eyes twinkled at Zayne before going flat. "Or try, anyway. Your mission," he said, striding over to a three-dimensional schematic of the ship, "is to rescue the Chancellor of the Republic, who has been kidnapped by a General Grievous, the leader of a Separatist movement. There's also another fearsome warrior aboard, a Lord of the Sith named Count Dooku. He is not to be underestimated. He took my arm off when I was 20."

He shrugged it off.

"Regardless. You will be paired up and rescue the Chancellor. Alive, please. Your mission is to fight past the droids and the Sith Lord, get back on a different ship and the hell off of this one as quickly as possible."

He waved his hand towards the control panel. The students would now find themselves in brown robes and holding unlit lightsaber hilts. They would work like the real things, but only in the Danger Room.

Their reflexes, regrettably, were what they had come in with.

"Try not to die," Anakin said, "and for the love of the Force, don't do stupid things with your lightsabers like try to skewer your classmates or write your name in the floor."

He then read off the pairs:
Zayne & Temari
Leto & Chuck
Marco & Brooke
Dor & Tony
Joan & Helen
K-Mart & Peter
Hurley & Sookie
Triela & Wendy
Gabriel & Ino

It was entirely possible that Zayne was better prepared for this than anyone else in the class.

The realization of how rare this was took a minute to fully dawn on him.

... And then the realization that the Sith apparently survived well into the future dawned on him.

... And then the realization that Master Lucien wasn't going to be happy to find that out dawned on him.

He had no idea how he was supposed to explain the Jedi being here in the first place, but bringing back knowledge that the Sith survived?

Any confidence Zayne had thanks to his possible advantage was fading as he thought ahead.

"Well, Jedi. Lead the way," Temari said dryly. She may have been giving the lightsaber an annoyed look. She wanted her damn fan.

Ino didn't think she'd, uh, ever talked to Gabriel before.

Well.

Hopefully he could fight?

Tony powered up the lightsaber and grinned. Freaking awesome!

Of course, he had no idea how to use a sword.

Dor barely knew how to use a sword. And the balance of a lightsaber was completely different.

He almost dropped it when he turned it on the first time.

"You think we can ask for just normal swords?" he asked hopefully.

Brooke sighed.

If anyone confused her with the Brookealike she was gonna cut a bitch with her glowy thing.

Hurley wondered if there were actually any Jedi of his... size. Jek Porkins... not a Jedi.

But still, he was ready to try anything.

Despite having had some disagreements with Ben on Jedi philosophy, Leto was quite looking forward to this execise. He examined the lightsaber, recalling the demonstration Ben had given him.

Peter tested his lightsaber while he waited for his partner. Swords weren't normally his thing, but he figured it wouldn't hurt to know how it worked.

K-Mart knew guns. She really did. Glowy stick things? Not so much.

She managed to power it up and keep the glowy part away from her as she tried it out. After making sure she could get the damn thing working, she made her way over to Peter. "Hey."

He glowers at the use of the name 'Gabriel'. However, he refuses to fall on his face in this exercise. Of the things he's been taught, fighting is one of the ones he's paid the most attention to. He's by no means perfect or having of Jedi reflexes, but he's far more adept at this than at reasonable classroom conversation.

Re: Rescue the Chancellor!

[identity profile] cataclysmicluck.livejournal.com 2009-02-18 12:51 am (UTC)(link)
Zayne had been focusing on the 'as quickly as possible' part of the assignment. He was finding it difficult to hurry forth while Temari was focused on moving towards the room where the Chancellor was stealthily, though.

It probably wouldn't have been so difficult if he himself were better at moving stealthily, of course. Right now it just led to him going slower than he wanted to and standing out like a sore thumb.

"Master Skywalker?" Zayne asked, approaching Anakin at the end of class. "Can I ask you something?"
