"Nitrogen, oxygen, argon, water vapour- and a handful of more exotic gases- are inhaled in every taken breath." Mohinder tapped the model in front of him. "But what lungs - ours and air-breathing animals from birds to snails - are really interested in that mix is oxygen, and transporting that into the blood stream."

Mohinder pointed out the squishy alveoli, talking through the gas exchange process. "If it were ever possible to completely unfold the lungs there would be about enough to cover a tennis court. They're almost living, breathing fractals."

Standing abruptly, Mohinder started giving out papers, saying, "And then sometimes they fail. Cancers, asthma, punctured by a sharp object or the surrounding ribs."

"There is the necessary equipment for basic lung function tests," he finished. "So, if you can all take a deep breath, you can start."

Where you could talk as well as listen, if yesterday wasn't conversation enough.

Sokka already knew PLENTY about lungs. For example, they were squidgy and tasted funny, so instead of cooking and eating them, you should use them for soup stock or sausage filling.

Liz took down detailed notes.

Cal wrote down idle notes as he listened; facts like the lungs being made up of that much stuff helped counterbalance the fact that it was boring science stuff.

Where there are tubes to blow into and machines (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lung_function_test#Technologies_used_in_spirometers) to exhale into (Examples (http://www.medic8.com/lung-disorders/lung-function-tests.htm) - How much/fast can you breathe? What's your lung capacity? How big a bubble (http://www.thebubbleshop.com/merchant-2-1.ihtml) can you blow?

The tests all showed what just about everyone could have suspected -- Sokka's lungs were far above average. After feeling all superior about that, he sat back and snickered while he watched the rest of the class fellate the machines.

Who is practically guaranteed to be breathing.

Chris was most definitely breathing, though he was still fretting over Savannah and her memory loss.
