Sex Ed, Monday [1-26] Third Period

Today a large poster was displayed at the front of the classroom. "I would just like to start by saying I had nothing to do with the creation of this poster," Steve said, looking faintly embarrassed about it. "But it has an important message. You can't always tell by looking at someone whether they have a venereal disease or not. They may not even know it. That's why protection is so important, and why abstinence is the only really effective way of preventing the spread of disease. Today we're going to have a little exercise to demonstrate this.

"You have the rest of the class period free to mingle and eat these cookies I brought. There is only one requirement: you must shake hands with anyone you talk to. And there is a catch. One of you is--hypothetically, of course--carrying a disease, which is transferred by the shaking of hands. I will tell you who at the end of the period. But don't worry about that for now. Chat. Enjoy the cookies."

"Magic?" Ned repeated. He seemed to be doing that a lot. "It was a magical accident before but now you can kinda do it when you want?"

"I haven't done it for a while, but yes. Odd flavored and normal. And apples, occasionally, but not as much."

"At least you can do more than just bacon and orange," he said and laughed. "That'd be sort of...tiring after awhile, I think."

Agreed.

"The coconut curry ones are actually rather good," he had to admit. Then he laughed.

"I almost want to offer to make a load of them for cooking club. Make it into a game or something."

"Oh, you should!" Ned said, able to see the opportunities that could provide now that he was thinking. "I could give you hand if you needed it but yeah, that'd be fun."

Liir couldn't help laughing a little.

"I wouldn't mind it," he told Ned, "just let me know. It doesn't take long."

"Probably not this week but next, definitely," Ned said. "Since, it looks like we'll have power this week, I can do what we were supposed to do last week."

"What're we doing?" he asked with some interest, "though, if it's a surprise, you don't have to tell me."

"Oh, no, it's not a surprise," Ned said, waving a hand. "It was supposed to be more of an icebreaker just to ease people back into things. So, we were going to do breakfast foods. Best way to start a day, best way to start...a new session of the club."

Ned blushed.

"It sounds kind of dopey saying it out loud."

He shook his head.

"Makes enough sense to me. They're simple, filling, and the skills used are good building blocks to other things. Miss Lulu started her class similarly."

"I was really craving an omelet when I came up with that so it might be a bit of a personal bias too," Ned admitted with another blush.

"There's that as well," he had to agree with a grin.

"I'd say I think about food too much but I don't think there's such a thing," Ned decided.

"You and I both," he said before glancing around.

"Best we shake, though, since we're supposed to."

He held out a hand.

He took it and gave it a good, firm shake.

"There. That's done, thank goodness."

He finally took a bite of the bacon cookie.

"It really is rather good."
