The Club Fair; Gym; Friday Afternoon [ 01/16 ].

Never one to shy away from getting her hands dirty in the tedious work of helping a student body run nice and smooth not dirty, Turtle had been very eager to help set up the club fair again this semester, putting up all the signs and posters and little treats on Westing Paper Products. The Club Schedule was very prominently displayed were everyone could see it before disappearing into the small maze of tables filling in the gym.

That, and it also helped her hold off the inevitable moment of seeing how this whole laundry strike thing was really effecting Jeff. Ahhhh, manual labor, the true opiate of the work-addicted masses.

John flipped the calendar to Ben's month. "'Least I'm not a thug. Think I should cover this one up in Jaina's copy?"

"Oooh," Ben said, who decided that yes, he needed one of those.

He paused. "You wouldn't happen to know when Jaina's getting back, would you?" he asked. "She left me a message and I'm not worried or anything but..." but he was totally worried.

"Well, I'm not sure about when she's coming back," John admitted. "But I am going out there to meet up with her today."

The blood drained from Ben's face. "Is she in a clinic?"

Ben'd had a tough couple of weeks.

"No!" John spoke quickly to reassure him. "She's getting Knighted again for some reason and just wants company. Everything there is fine." Not that she seemed entirely normal to him on the phone, but that wasn't the point.

Ben remembered to breathe again. "Okay," he said, trying to pretend like he hadn't just wigged out for no good reason. "And you're okay?" he asked. "She said you'd been in a bacta tank too."

"Yeah," John frowned, still disappointed that he'd messed up. "I'm good. How're you doing? I...heard on radio stuff wasn't so peachy?"

Ben shrugged, shoulders hunching up as he pulled on his sleeves to make sure his arms stayed covered. "Jacen's a bastard. That's not exactly news."

The tone Ben used when he said it was new, though.

See, and that sort of thing would be why John was having a hard time being glad Jaina's brother wasn't really dead. "He getting to be more of a bastard?"

"Jaina and my dad tried to blow up his ship," Ben said flatly. "Pretty sure he's off the family Life Day card lists."

"I'm back here," Ben said. "Dad thinks this is a break." His lips quirked up. "He's my new teacher, officially. Unofficially, Granddad's working with me while I'm on the island, but that would raise some eyebrows, and, um, eyestalks and stuff, back home."

Ben snickered. "I'm getting there, but he's got it down to an art. Same with the stalking around. I think I need to grow another six inches or so. Right now it looks like I'm a short guy with issues."

Listening to radio made the list of possibilities short. "Am I gonna be seeing more of you down at my end of the hall?" Or would that be hearing?
