fandomhigh | Movie Appreciation: Week 1, Period 3 (Fri. 1/9)

In time for third period, the Danger Shop had been transformed into a large movie theater complete with a stage in front of the screen. On the stage this morning, stood a large man with dreads who wore a leather ensemble that either screamed pot head or alien based on your point of view.

"Movies. People on Earth can't get enough of 'em. You may know I'm not from this galaxy, but I've seen enough movies in the past few years to have figured out it's all about entertainment. Which is where you come in." He stalked across the stage, trying to catch a few student's eyes as he went along. "This class is to appreciate movies. We'll watch clips an' discuss the types. I'm gonna ask you to spend a couple hours outside class watching some other movies as the semester goes along. Do it, don't, you're the one who won't get to kick Sheppard in the face when we act out ~~meta for~~ Hot Fuzz." Sadly for John, he wasn't kidding.

"This week we're doin' the intro thing. Tell us your name and describe your favorite movie. Then we'll see if anyone knows what the hell you're talkin' about and can guess the title. If you've never seen a movie or don't have a favorite, tell everybody why you're here."

"And how life is always improved by a good song-and-dance number," Romeo added.

"Oh, definitely," Claudia said. "And how good friends always know the dance steps."

"And they'll always sing backing vocals during your solo," Romeo laughed. "We had a day where everyone sung last winter, you're making me almost wish it would happen again."

Why were all the cute boys at this school engaged or insane? It was so sad.

"Maybe it will," she said.

Romeo raised an eyebrow at that flat reaction. "None of the new girls this term believe anything I say," he complained.

"That's because you say insane things," Claudia told him.

And he hadn't even gotten into his backstory!

"That's because this island is an insane place," Romeo countered, eying Claudia's outfit. She looked as though she should appreciate a little insanity.

"With the 'zombies' and the 'talking squirrels' and the no flying cars in the future?" Claudia said. "I'm new, but I'm not totally stupid. You're all messing with us. My roommate got so high a few days ago that I was hallucinating things."

Romeo picked out the truly important bit in all of that. "Well, the squirrels don't talk," he reported. "They just spy on us and write notes for the radio. And one had a crush on my old roommate."

He probably wasn't helping his case.

Claudia stared at him.

"...of course they do."

Romeo realized he was just making things worse, shut his mouth firmly, and blushed.

She would learn.
