fandomhigh | Movie Appreciation: Week 1, Period 3 (Fri. 1/9)

In time for third period, the Danger Shop had been transformed into a large movie theater complete with a stage in front of the screen. On the stage this morning, stood a large man with dreads who wore a leather ensemble that either screamed pot head or alien based on your point of view.

"Movies. People on Earth can't get enough of 'em. You may know I'm not from this galaxy, but I've seen enough movies in the past few years to have figured out it's all about entertainment. Which is where you come in." He stalked across the stage, trying to catch a few student's eyes as he went along. "This class is to appreciate movies. We'll watch clips an' discuss the types. I'm gonna ask you to spend a couple hours outside class watching some other movies as the semester goes along. Do it, don't, you're the one who won't get to kick Sheppard in the face when we act out ~~meta for~~ Hot Fuzz." Sadly for John, he wasn't kidding.

"This week we're doin' the intro thing. Tell us your name and describe your favorite movie. Then we'll see if anyone knows what the hell you're talkin' about and can guess the title. If you've never seen a movie or don't have a favorite, tell everybody why you're here."

Peter tried to think of what movie to talk about.

"My name is Peter Petrelli. I've got a few favorite movies but one of them is that movie about the two brothers in Montana. The older one is the more studious, good-son type and he's always trying to bail the younger one out of trouble. Both of them are kinda growing up in the shadow of their dad. The three of them may have problems getting along, but they still manage to bond over their shared love of fishing. Oh, and I think almost everybody would agree the younger brother was the better-looking one."

Peter grinned at the last bit.

"See that's how you know it's a movie and not real life," Dean pointed out.

Peter very maturely responded to that by sticking his tongue out at Dean.

"Dude, thanks, but I'm not my brother. Save it for him."

Peter facepalmed. "Gross, Dean. Seriously."

"If you think it's gross, you're not doing it right," Dean helpfully pointed out.

"With you, Dean," Peter clarified. "Not with Sam."

Dean paused. "Okay. Fair enough."

Dinah was giggling at the Dean-and-Peter byplay, then said, "~~Meta for~~ A River Runs Through It? I think? But I haven't seen that one, I just remember hearing about the fishing."

"That's the one," Peter said. Seeing that she was a new student, he added, "Peter Petrelli by the way. Hi."

He might have a boyfriend, but yet, still cute. Was any boy at this school not cute? "Hi! So you like family-drama-type movies? Most guys don't, that's kind of cool."

"I've got a brother," Peter said, "so stuff about brothers kinda speaks to me."

"I've just got sisters. I like ~~meta for~~ Little Women because of that, but lots of movies get it wrong. And you're dating Dean's brother? The floppy-haired one?" Yes, she'd listened to Dean talk about the guy. Yup.

"Since last semester," Peter said, proudly. "But we've been friends for a while."

"That's probably the best way to do it," Dinah said, resisting the urge to go awww! at Peter's pride in that. "People wouldn't break up so much if they really got to know other people."

Sokka raised an eyebrow. "Seriously? What kind of movie is THAT?"

"A good one," Peter said.

Sokka grimaced. "Are you sure?"

"I like it," Peter replied.

"Good movie," Tony agreed. "Depressing ending, but beautifully shot."

"Back me up on the younger brother," Peter said. "Dean thinks I'm making it up."

"Well, yeah," Tony said. "But in real life, the actor has a younger brother, so I don't know if that helps your argument."

"It's the movie appreciation class," Peter said, after giving it some thought. "So we'll stick with the movie."

Tony grinned. "Whatever works for you."

"That's my story and I'm sticking to it," Peter replied.
