Child Development- 1st Period- Class #1
"Hey, guys!" Lily greeted everyone. "I see a couple familiar faces here, good to see you again. For those that don't know me, I'm Ms. Aldrin, and I've been teaching here since the summer. Some of you know that my background is as a kindergarten teacher, and now I teach you all. So, I have a little experience with kids of most ages by now. Now, some of you might be here because you like kids, or want to go into teaching, or because you've had to babysit tiny versions of your teachers or something and want to know what you're doing the next time. Or you just ended up in the wrong class, in which case I'll try to make it not suck too hard.
"What we're doing here is learning about kids and how they grow up," she went on. "We're going to cover the physical, emotional and social development in the major age groups, and focusing a little more on the really early stages because that's when so much development takes place. We're also going to go delve a little into psychology and sociology, and there'll be a bunch of little things you can do to up your grade.
"Starting now. This week, you can all sign up for the chance to wear your own empathy belly!" This was said way too excitedly as she walked to the other side of her desk and picked up the... device to show it off. "It's completely optional, but for credit, you can sign up to wear one of these for a day. It simulates some of the effects of pregnancy, including the thirty pound weight gain. Girls and guys can both do this, and two or three people can sign up on a day to do it at the same time. Pick it uphandwavily the day of, return it handwavily at the end, and report back on it next week.
"For now though," Lily said, "you can stand up, give us your name and something interesting about yourself, and tell us all why you're taking this class. I'll pass up the empathy belly sign-up sheet while you're doing introductions."
