Food Appreciation [Class One, Period #3]

When the students came into the classroom today they would notice that it was set up like a usual classroom except for a loooooooong table in the front of the room. It was covered in all sorts of food. Seriously. A ridiculous amount of food. Marshall was standing beside it, eying the food hungrily. He couldn't wait until it was time to eat. When it looked like everyone was in the room, Marshall tore his attention away from the food and onto the students.

"Hi guys. For those of you who don't know, I'm Marshall Eriksen and this is Food Appreciation," he said with a smile. "This class is exactly what it sounds like. We're here to appreciate food. I tried to make it seem like there's rhyme or reason to this class and we're not just stuffing our faces but...we're here to stuff our faces. Don't tell the principal."



"Your T.A. for this class is Miss. Peters. She's pretty much awesome and she's perfectly capable of taking over the class if I'm not here," he said, smiling over at Francine. "Some of you guys look familiar and some of you are new to me so let's start today with some introductions. Just give me your name, your favorite food and tell me something about yourself. I'll go first. I'm Marshall, and, yes, just call me Marshall. Mr. Eriksen still weirds me out. My favorite food is any type of candy and I'm married to Ms. Aldrin, who is another teacher here. And, um...I've won a slap bet. Okay. Who's next?"

After the introductions Marshall clapped his hands together and pointed at the table of food. "Okay, today we're going to start with the most obvious food to start with: breakfast. It is the most important meal of the day. There is nothing worse than going through a day without breakfast. I guarantee you ninety percent of the time when you run into a grumpy person during your day they are grumpy because they didn't have a good breakfast. Eat it. Every day. It can be simple, some cereal, some fruit, yogurt. You won't regret it."

"Now we've got a ton of breakfast food that I got the cafeteria to mix up. Bacon, eggs, pancakes, waffles..." Marshall said, pointing at the various stuff on the table. "We're also getting New York with the bagels and lox and--ooh, there's a strip steak. Steak and eggs are the best. And oh! For you guys going to college: leftover pizza. Trust me, get used to it. Don't heat it up. You're most likely going to eat it cold."

"Okay, so there's plates and silverware up here and juice, coffee and other drinks in the back," Marshall said. "Get eating. Talk to each other about breakfast food."

Yep. This was going to be the best class ever.

"I am being called Blysse," Firekeeper said. "This is Blind Seer," she added, gesturing to the rather large wolf sitting beside her. "I am liking elk to eat. I am a wolf."

She wasn't really one for conversation.

"I've never really head elk before," Marshall admitted. "But the Deputy Mayor, Ms. Scherbatsky probably has. I bet it's a delicacy in Canada."

"My name is Hoshi Sato, and my favorite food is cold soba noodles with soy sauce." It was an acquired taste. Even Hoshi refused to eat them as a little girl.

"And something weird about me is that back home, we have food replicators but I prefer to cook real food. The replicated stuff usually taste a little bit funny."

"Ew, I bet," Marshall said, wrinkling up his nose. "Nothing beats actual food."

"I'm Hurley Reyes?" Hurley says. "You might have me down as Hugo, and that's cool, too. I guess... I really like chicken? And I work at the flower shop on Fridays and the Music store on Saturdays."

"Oh, I'll totally call you Hurley if you want me to call you Hurley," Marshall assured him. He wasn't some kind of a first name Nazi. "Chicken's awesome. You got a favorite way to have chicken?"

Priestly was sporting a green mohawk today, and a white and pink t-shirt reading "cat: the other white meat".

"I'm Priestly. I like a roast turkey sub with thousand island and provolone, and, uh. I think people who think Elvis is dead are fooling themselves."

"I'm Ned, I' m a senior," Ned started, "and I like to bake pies. Which hasn't changed since the last time I was in your class. I don't really have a favorite. As long as it's sweet. I've gotten more into pies with strawberries in them as of late."

"I'm Alex Russo, and I love New York bagels," she explained. Alex missed them, a lot. "I also know how to make just about any kind of sub you'd imagine." Working at her family's sub station helped with that.

This being Claudia's first day of classes, she'd chosen her outfit with extra care: a vintage DARE (http://www.pimpyourshirts.com/servlet/the-3677/Vintage-D.A.R.E.-T-dsh-Shirt,-New,/Detail) shirt that she'd shredded the sleeves and bottom of, a red paisley flailed skirt over black leggings, and black knee-high boots. She'd put her long hair into two French braids, the better to show off her Christmas light earrings that blinked on and off. On anyone else, it would have necessitated an immediate trip to the eye doctor. On Claudia, it looked great.

"I'm Claudia Kishi," she said. "I love all things junk food, but right now I'm going through a Hershey's Special Dark phase. Oh! I made my earrings."

"Hey. I'm Summer Roberts," Summer told the class. "My favorite food is caffeine. It's totally a food group. Uh, and I have a pet bunny named Pancakes."

She thought that was somewhat relevant since today's class was all about breakfast foods.

"Momoko Akatsutsumi!" Momoko waved her hand and grinned. "My favourite food is... Well, just about anything dessert, although I really like home-made desserts best! And hmm, about me? Well, I miss all the little food stands and family-run shops we have back home even though the restaurants here are really nice and I didn't even know about dark chocolate raspberry truffles until I got here, which are now my favourite ever, so it kind of evens out, but still I'm kind of homesick for takoyaki." She smiled.

Soon Harry wasn't going to be able to say he was a wizard so easily. He'd miss that.
