Fandom High Welcome Picnic, Front Lawn of the School, All Day: Part I

If anyone had hoped for good weather for the picnic, their wish had been granted as the day turned out to be sunny and warm. Everything had been cleaned up, spiffed up and bedazzled dazzled made as perfect as possible for the new arrivals. They deserved at least a few moments of pleasantness before the weirdness started to sink in.

May whatever deity they believed in help them now.

As usual, there were long tables set up with food and drinks, a table of nametags, and two signs: one listing the Big Sibling/Little Sibling pairings, and one listing rooms and roommates for the new students. With everything in place, the picnic was ready to begin.

Raimie would love this girl--but no, Jill wasn't thinking about Raimie. "Uh-huh," she said. "Cool. Uh, I don't have a ton of clothes, I have, like, a normal amount of stuff, I guess?"

"We should be fine, then," said Harper. "I came here to visit my friend during Parents Weekend, so I've already gotten a peek at the rooms."

"Wow, you're way ahead of me, then," Jill said. "Already got a friend here, and you know what the rooms look like. Go you!"

"Well, there was only so much I could cover in one weekend, and I spent most of that telling Alex how awful everything's been at home since she left to come to Fandom," said Harper.

Well, that sounded...awkward, at best. "Oh," Jill said. "So, what, you decided to come join her?"

"Well, there was this girl named Gigi that didn't really like me, and she had this huge clique of followers. Everyone wanted to be Gigi's friend, and if she didn't like me, then no one really wanted to talk to me," said Harper. "And this was supposed to be a special school and I'm a really good student, so I decided this might be better for me."

"Oh," Jill said. "Did anyone tell you how it's special? Because I'm here because they're supposed to be able to deal with my...condition."

"No, no one said anything about how it's special," said Harper, though there were people who had been trying to tell her that all day.

"I'm sure we'll figure it out," Jill said with a confidence she didn't really feel. "Everybody seems really nice so far, anyway." Even if some of them were kind of...weird.

"Pretty much everyone I've talked to has assured me that the other students are really nice," said Harper. "I almost wonder if I should be suspicious!"
