Fandom High Welcome Picnic, Front Lawn of the School, All Day: Part I

If anyone had hoped for good weather for the picnic, their wish had been granted as the day turned out to be sunny and warm. Everything had been cleaned up, spiffed up and ~~bedazzled~~ ~~dazzled~~ made as perfect as possible for the new arrivals. They deserved at least a few moments of pleasantness before the weirdness started to sink in.

May whatever deity they believed in help them now.

As usual, there were long tables set up with food and drinks, a table of nametags, and two signs: one listing the Big Sibling/Little Sibling pairings, and one listing rooms and roommates for the new students. With everything in place, the picnic was ready to begin.

[OCD is up!! This is part one of the picnic, specifically for meeting siblings, roommates, and teachers. The rest of the picnic is happening here and here, in an effort to keep browsers from breaking for as long as possible.]

"What does 'dibble' mean?" Zayne asked. "I'm trying to get caught up on local slang."

"It's short for 'incredible,'" Claudia explained.

"Oh, okay!" Zayne said. "Then go right ahead and make it dibble."

"Do you have any favorite colors?" Claudia asked.

"Well, I'm kind of partial to yellow. That's the color of my lightsaber," Zayne explained.

"...you might want to go to a clinic and get that looked at," Claudia said.

"Why would the clinic care what color crystal I put in my lightsaber?" Zayne asked.

"You put something in your 'lightsaber?' Omigod, omigod, omigod..."

"I'd show you that it's no big deal, but we're not supposed to have weapons on school grounds," Zayne said. "I already had it put away in the weapons locker."

"It DETACHES??!"

"Well, yeah," Zayne said. "I couldn't use it in a fight if I couldn't take it off my belt."

This didn't make things better. "You fight other people with it?!"

"Only when I'm trying to protect people," Zayne said.

Claudia snickered. "I've never heard it called that before."

"What else would you call it?" Zayne asked.

"Did you miss that assembly too?"

"What assembly?" Zayne asked.

"The one about sex," Claudia replied.

"The one about..." Zayne started to repeat. "Oh! No! My lightsaber is an actual weapon. It's a sword with a blade made of focused light for dueling and things like that. Not a sex thing."

Claudia bet in the right hands it could turn into a sex thing. "Ohhhhhhh."

"I'm glad we got that straightened out now," Zayne said. "That could have been awkward."

"I would've laughed if you went to practice with it," Claudia admitted.

"That's the kind of embarrassment I think I can do without," Zayne said.
