BWI Airport, Portalocity Port, Saturday Morning

Spirit's ride to the island had been settled and Adora was trying very hard not to be nervous while she waited for the Fandom transport to arrive. Looking out the airport window, Adora realized she'd never seen so many fleets of vehicles in all her life that weren't involved in some sort of insurrection, and found herself desperately hoping her mother was right about this Earth place being safe from the Horde.

Just the thought of her family calmed Adora and she instinctively reached to touch the Sword of Protection where it was hidden by her hair and clothing, feeling that no matter where she was, she always had a way to contact the people she loved.

Now if only she knew for sure that this room marked "Fandom High" was really where she needed to be. Adora paced the large space as she waited, thinking she couldn't possibly be the only new student journeying to campus in this manner.

"Galaxy." Well, he was religious, and sure, they could talk like that. "That sounds pretty cool, getting to travel and help people too. So you're like Doctors Without Borders? Or those aid groups? Coool." She gave him an admiring smile, and asked, "So where do you want to go first? Or would I have even heard of it?"

"What's Doctors Without Borders?" Zayne asked, realizing that he was starting to lose track of the conversation.

"Dcotors who go out in war zones no matter what country it is, and help with the refugees and the wounded. But you're not going to be a doctor, so I guess you'd just help out?" Dinah tilted her head. "Is Jedi the name of your religion? Or your job?"

"Well, the Jedi aren't a religion, exactly," Zayne said. "Well, I guess, kind of... How do I explain this?" He paused for a moment. "There's this thing called The Force that's a life energy that connects every living thing. The Jedi are servants of the Force. If I can prove myself well enough, I'll become a Jedi Knight."

"...hunh." Okayyyy. Dinah was attempting to stay open-minded about this, because it actually sounded pretty cool-- but very very weird. That was inescapable. Well. It was really the 'knight' thing that put it over the top. Everything else could be metaphor, but... "Knight? And, uh. Prove yourself how?"

"Managing to complete any assignments my Master gives me," Zayne said. "Which includes being a good ambassador for the Jedi Order here. Let me know if I'm doing a bad job with that, okay? But that and making progress with my Force abilities. And if I can do that without messing up too much, they'll hopefully consider me for promotion."

"Oh. Okay?" Dinah did a fish-bowl face thing for a second, then frowned. "Mostly you're confusing me," she admitted sheepishly. "But that might be me, and not being religious at all. And what the heck are Force abilities?"

"It's okay. I'm the first Jedi to ever come to this planet, and I am just a student myself, so I'm probably not explaining it very well," Zayne said. "But with the Force that I mentioned? Jedi are able to work with it to do things. Like this." Zayne held out what was left of his brownie. He concentrated and, through the Force, the brownie lifted several inches above his hand.

Yeah, you could've knocked Dinah over with a non-Force applied feather, here.

"You're meta!" she squeaked. "Like me! Omigod you--" She yanked her voice back down from the upper register, bouncing in her chair as she flailed. "Watch, watch!"

She tried to pull on the brownie with her telekinesis-- and missed completely. The wrapper went skidding over the surface of the chair, though.

"What's meta?" Zayne asked, watching the wrapper fly.

"Somebody who can do things that normal people can't, like this, telekinesis, you know, making things move with your mind," Dinah said, lowering her voice to a whisper as she futilely slapped a hand over the wrapper, hoping no one had noticed. Spaz! Such a spaz! "Or, you know, read minds. Super strength. Like that. Weird DNA and all." She grinned at him, thrilled and confused. "And that's what you call a Force ability?"

Re: Waiting for the Shuttle

[identity profile] cataclysmicluck.livejournal.com 2009-01-03 06:22 am (UTC)(link)
"Well, the Force doesn't really have anything to do with DNA," Zayne explained. "It's just an energy field that's in all living things. But there are plenty of alien species with natural abilities like that, too, that have nothing to do with the Force."

Aaaaand now Dinah's brain is half-broken again, not sure if Zayne is half-crazy, really religious, knows more than Barbara (no, not likely, Barbara knows everything) or... what. Seriously. "Um?"

"This planet's not really used to any of this Force stuff, I know, so it probably sounds nuts," Zayne admitted.
