BWI Airport, Portalocity Port, Saturday Morning

Spirit's ride to the island had been settled and Adora was trying very hard not to be nervous while she waited for the Fandom transport to arrive. Looking out the airport window, Adora realized she'd never seen so many fleets of vehicles in all her life that weren't involved in some sort of insurrection, and found herself desperately hoping her mother was right about this Earth place being safe from the Horde.

Just the thought of her family calmed Adora and she instinctively reached to touch the Sword of Protection where it was hidden by her hair and clothing, feeling that no matter where she was, she always had a way to contact the people she loved.

Now if only she knew for sure that this room marked "Fandom High" was really where she needed to be. Adora paced the large space as she waited, thinking she couldn't possibly be the only new student journeying to campus in this manner.

Dinah picked up on K-Mart's flail, and started getting more nervous herself. "You don't think the bus would leave without us, do you?"

"No, I don't think it would," K-Mart said. "I mean, they could get in trouble for that, couldn't they?"

"Right! Right," Dinah said, relieved. "I mean, if they show up without us, someone could totally sue. Or at least yell. Most schools hate that." She smiled a little. "I'm Dinah. Hi."

"I'm K-Mart." She grinned. "And yeah, schools don't like suing or yelling."

Or so she seemed to remember.

"Like the store? Cool," Dinah said, grinning a little. "Where are you coming in from? I'm from New Gotham."

"I came from the remnants of a town in Alaska," K-Mart said.

"Went bust, hunh?" Dinah said with sympathy. "The economy really does suck. You're pretty far from home, wow."

"Well, originally I was from Georgia. But then things kind of went to hell -- except not literally to hell -- and we wound up traveling around place to place just trying to survive."

"So are you looking forward to the school?" Dinah asked, curious. "I mean, at least it's not moving around any more."

"I am, actually," K-Mart admitted. "It's gonna be nice to do something normal for once."

"Yeaaah," Dinah admitted. "It's been kind of a weird year for me. As long as they don't make us wear uniforms, which," she looked over at Priestley and Claudia, "Doesn't look real likely right now."

"At this point, I even think I wouldn't mind the uniforms," K-Mart said. "For all of ten minutes, anyway."

"Home is fine. School is hell." She debated a bit, then offered a partial explanation. "I got into a fight, and now everyone's waiting for me to do it again. And my boyfriend broke up with me. Just... feeling like a freak. It'll be nice to start over."
